I once read somewhere that life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end, the faster it goes. Not a great comparison, but its accurate. But yeah, time does seem to fly these days.

But a rate of decay (half-life) is a measure of time. So time is a measure of time? Surely time is a measure of distance?

Don't worry Allwyn, here's a couple of cool quotes that may cheer you up

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."

"Until you value yourself, you wont value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it."

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace."

depends whether you approach with a scientific, mathmatical or philosophical view i guess...

my point is... who determined that the measuring implement used (the half life) should be the correct measurement?

I thought the scientific measurement of time was the amount of time it takes for a certain atom to vibrate 9 million times or something like that is equal to 1 second.

I prefer a philosophical thinking of time anyway, it's much more interesting!!

I totally understand that! I'm 28 too and feel like I'm old sometimes. I think "what have I got to show for it?" That's when I think, good education, great job, but I wonder if I ought to be married and a mother by now. Then I think, but I have the freedom to pick up and do whatever I want--if it's go to Boston to spend a week with old friends or run to AC for a weekend. Life's confusing that way. LOL It's harder to appreciate what you have when you try to measure yourself by other people's standards.

The key is to measure your life by your standards and what you find important.
