Default Today Is D-day

THOUSANDS of concert fans are expected to find out today whether a controversial Bruce Springsteen gig will get the go ahead at Lancashire’s Old Trafford Cricket Ground next month.

month ago, councillors sitting on the Licensing Committee of Trafford council voted unanimously to block the 50,000 sell out gig, due to take place on May 29, after hearing the concerns of residents living close to the ground.

But the gig’s promoters immediately appealed against the decision and today Trafford magistrates were hearing the case and deciding on the matter. The hearing is due to last all day.

Persuade

World renowned concert promoter Harvey Goldsmith, the man behind the gig, is expected to make a personal appearance in an effort to persuade the magistrates to sanction it.

Licensing bosses turned down the event after hearing the concerns of residents over noise and crowd problems at previous concerts, particularly Oasis.

They are also concerned that the gig would happen the day after the Champions’ League Final at Manchester United’s nearby Old Trafford football ground.

Some 50,000 fans have already paid for tickets, costing up to £32.50 to see the American rocker, dubbed ‘The Boss’, perform at Old Trafford cricket ground.

Fans of the performer have sent hundreds of messages to this website voicing their anger over the Licensing Committee’s decision to block the concert
