Default Tornado Warnings

Is anyone else in the area that's getting pounded by thunderstorms today? One of the schools sites where I work got part of the roof ripped off by a tornado.

Thats 1 reason why I am glad about living in the UK. No crazy natural disasters or killer animals waiting to kill me.

Well, I live in Oklahoma.. Tornado Alley so I get them ALL the time. I just moved here and wait till next spring. Last year we had around 10 or 11 just in the Oklahoma City area. So, I am kinda freaked out about that!

I had a tornado go through the lawn between my house and the one next door to me 3 years ago. It tore the chimney off my neighbors house, and ripped up the tree in my yard, but thats about it... we were lucky.
When my dad was little though (not even a year) a tornado came through (they were out of town luckily) and ruined everything. Don't have any baby picutres of my dad, or and of my aunts or uncles, and a lot of family keepsakes belonging to my great-grandma were lost too.

At the very beginning of the summer, my small township was struck by a tornado. I remember seeing it go across the street right outside my living room window. It was truly a horrifying site. Mind you, it was only an F-0, but it still caused a good amount of damage to the houses nearby (nothing bad at my house thankfully...the house behind us though had two massive trees uprooted). It was really one of the scariest things I've ever seen. The strangest thing is, we had no warning whatsoever. I was watching a movie while my Mom was in the kitchen. I heard a lot of wind outside, so I curiously took to the window. My mom didn't believe me when I started announcing the tornado's arrival for there were clear skies in the rear of the house...really weird!

Last year, Kennywood (an amusement park not far from my place) got hammered by what meteorologists call a "microbusrt". One person was actually killed when one of the rides' roofs collapsed.

Speaking of microbursts, Cranberry (a town near mine) got hit by a microbusrt only a few weeks ago, and it caused a lot of damage to their mall and nearby homes.

And we had another tornado in 1996 I believe...maybe 1997. This one was an F-1 which hit closer to the city (Pittsburgh).

I've also been witness to two other tornadoes, on in Ohio (on the way to Cedar Point) and one near Erie, Pennsylvania.

I live in a very hill area, so large storms are kind of strange, I suppose. I blame some of it on recent rennovations to the west of us (the direction from which the storms come). Tons of trees have been removed in order for malls and the like, and I think the trees helped stop some of the worse stuff (slowing down winds and all).

Oh, and we had a blizzard in 1993, which was pretty sweet because snow rocks.

So there's my weather happenings over the years.

No tornadoes, but we've got all the rain that was with them now! Icky day out. We usually only get tornado warnings when a hurricane or tropical storm is approaching. I remember when I was in 7th grade we had a hurricane here and a tornado came right down our street. It turned the garage door inside out on the neighbors house and ripped trees up all over the place. My family said it sounded like a freight train going down the street and I slept through it. LOL.
