Because compared to the stereotypical American, who wears braces and has straight teeth, ours are crooked because we only have work on them if something is really wrong.

It is just that this stereotypical view of Americans isn't really stereotypical because it is true. So in a way saying we have bad teeth is poking fun at themselves for being so image conscious.

Thanks. After that we are going to talk about all those wonderful signs around NY proclaiming it to be the "capital of the world." I just see them on every corner these days. Can't seem to escape them.

We are not image conscious, we eat unhealthy and are fat. Get it straight.
