They are saying that they want to replace the car tax with charges for using the roads.

Road tax works out to be about £160 for the year, if they charge say £1 a mile that works out at £200+ to drive to London from my neck of the woods. What I would like to know is, is this going to be a one off payment for a journey to London and back or will you have to pay again for travelling home? If so then it is going to cost me £400 + to drive and see my relatives

To be honest I think this is a crazy idea and we should just stick with the way things are.

Sorry for venting!

bbc news 24 just ran a report on it. Mr Darling is sayign this is the only way to stop gridlock on our roads in the future.

Bullshit, Glasgows Scotlands most populated city and it's piss easy to drive around in at rush hour both in the morning and evening, Edinburghs only got a bad problem because the city centre is tiny and princes street is the only one you can really drive in.

Getting planning folk in who actually have a clue would do a much better job than charging people and I cannot see one person agreeing with this or one real and genuine reason to bring it in.

£110-ish a year road tax dropped for a coupla grand a year to drive, mhmmmm that'll get passed.

Although, I don't know if you're aware or not mate, you can't even drive along that now - only taxis and buses! Kinda makes the pedestrian crossings a bit redundant but George Street is chocker!
