That's mainly down to the way the media/aspects of the government present Muslims.. How many of our American members actually know any Muslims out of interest? And I don't mean "oh there's one of them down the street"

Christ - you guys are so bigoted about Americans. Not all of us are evil. As an engineer I work with plenty of Muslims (and Indians and other oriental people) and yes - many of them are friends and have been for years My best woman friend is married to an Indian man - another friend is married to a black man. What's with the bigotry????

Keep in mind that at least half of us did NOT vote for Bush and would change things drastically on the world stage if we could.

What's Indians, Orientals and blacks got to do with it? From my experience not that many American's actually know any Muslims personally.... As opposed to Europe where you can't get away from them ;]

There are people of different religions and colour all over America - perhaps more so on both coasts than in the mid-west. Most of us in the New York / New Jersey area are very familiar with Muslims personally - if no other way than through work. My kids went to school with Muslims from 1st grade on. So I am not sure who you mean when you say many Americans don't know Muslims personally. God knows we have out bigots as does any country - but I would say that most Americans are more tolerant than other nations simply because we have had to deal with so many different cultures as part of "our" culture. We are used to differences.

Kathleen is right. I teach children of NUMEROUS cultures, Muslim being one of them. Now, they even have the right to use the library when necessary to pray whenever it is called for. I use this as an example to show you that we are not dealing with just one Muslim student but many. This, along with other policies, have changed over the years to incorporate the different religions and beliefs amongst our students.

The fact that your a talking both the way you do proves and cofirms to me once again that Muslims are not as far integrated in your society as here in Europe, not by lightyears

Something else, just saw some speech from Bush and
Even I'm getting disgusted by the zillions of God bless you's and with God help when someone from US (Goverment )speaks and images broadcasted around the world, especcialy nowadays - provocation?
If your so cultured then get that out of your system first. It's not from this time.
If our president will say something like that in a speech he will get the whole country over him.
(wasn't Blair bashed by media because he reformed the Church or anything just before he stopped?)

Imagine your a normal Muslim family from Iran whos afraid the US will attack, imagine your a normal Muslim mother from Iraq who just lost her 2 sons in another faulty attack from the US (or allies) and you here Bush saying, with God help we will win the war on Terror in Iraq..... and just a few seconds later and next year we'll need a higher budget of 180.000.000.000.000$ (all defence budget, nothing for rebuild of Iraq)
Imagine your that family in Africa in that country where genocide is normal for decades, where people starving (but nothing to gain from any outside western country)

Translated quote Jamie Fox:

''It is good that the movie shows how Arabs live in real (family) life, with kids. We don't see that often in the US. Here we see everybody in the Middle-East as a terrorist''

I think it depends on where you live in the US since it's a huge country. Around where I live in Northern New Jersey - New York City being foreign of any sort is perfectly normal. Northern NJ has a very large Muslim population n(ie. Patterson). I think if you live in the middle of the country or the south or the southwest you will probably not have any clue about how Muslims live except for what the media tells you about them.

As a structural engineer I work with people from the middle east all the time. I went to school with people from the middle east at Berkeley in the seventies so that is quite a familiar culture (to me at least).

And Kathleen is trying to tell you that you shouldn't believe everything you hear.
