There are 2 sides to this argument, and for mine if Saddam starts telling the truth and co-operating with the UN then this whole thing will end peacefully.

War is wrong on all levels - politicians EVERYWHERE (though those against are doing a good job) should grow the Fcuk up!

the 4th option for me, too.
well, some people have to realise that this war won't happen because the US want to defend the world peace by taking the weapons from saddam and his country (which has no power at all) but because they want iraq's oil. two big countries that are taking advantage of iraq's oils now, are france and germany that's why their politicians are against this war. simple citizens like us have other reasons to be against any war!
also the US people have never really lived through hard war times, like europeans, that's why it's easier for them to be more light hearted over that subject. but again, from what i've been seeing the last days the majority of people in every country are against this irrational war! and that's a good thing...

And you know it is only about the oil because......that is what your told to believe. You have no idea what kinds of weapons Saddam has or doesn't have. If you did know, you better contact a UN inspector and tell him that he is wasting his time. You know the same as everyone else, which is what your politicians tell you. Unless you live in Iraq and hang with Saddam on a daily basis, don't pretend to know something you don't.

Saddam has no power at all??? That is laughable.

Sorry, but this time I don't think it's about he oil for our government (for the people it definetely isn't). Maybe you know that last year our chancellor was chosen. Schröder and with him the SPD won. But Stoiber and the CDU/CSU announced that they won't do that for the whole 4 years. And after all the shit that happened since last year (but it's the same every year) the SPD lost many electors. The only thing that keeps them where they are is that they are against the war. People know that Stoiber would be for it. So our current government had a little problem if they changed their mind.
As for your second paraghraph I totally agree. There's nothing more to say.

I would hesitate to say it was just about the oil, just as I'd hesitate to say Saddam is developing weapons purely for retribution against the US who chucked them out of Kuwait.

However - surely the Weapons Inspectors r already wasting their time if there is proof Saddam has these weapons & is ready to use them??

10 years is a long time to hide things. As far as having weapons, we know he does because we are the dummies that gave them to him.

10 years later......Give me that Candy back or I'll beat u....

from what i've been studying in the university the last years no country is good to another just out of pure humanism. there are always other interests that are being perplexed in the backstage of international relations. politicians aim to what fulfills and increases their counties' profits. maybe their opposition to the war derives from the fact that they can't change their mind as you said but that can't be the only reason. it's too daring to opposite the US just because 'they can't change their mind', you know what i mean?
