Default wednesday, bloody wednesday...

g'morning folks!

yesterday i went out and something strange happened- i thought wanna tell you the story.
we went to a typical student's bar- quite a big spot with lot's of people from 19-28 partying the near end of the week. this bar is known for loud- and sometimes even good music, so many were dancing, drinking, smooching , singing.... and then they played like every night "it's my life" which is a real bomb cause the crowd goes mad and everyone will be dancing and drinking a little more, smooching a little more intensely and for sure singing a little louder. one of the reasons why everybody cheers up is that it is duty in bars in this area that a bon jovi song is followed by bryan adam's "summer of 69"- which is kind of a climax of the night. but this time it wasn't summer of 69 which followed- it obviously was a live song cause you could hear people screaming and then you could hear a familiar voice say "this ain't no rebel song- cause this song is sunday, bloody sunday" the reaction was interesting as was the choice of the song: most people screamed and didn't mind that the unwritten bryan adams law was broken and they kept on partying and dancing- not realizing what this song is about- the minority stood still with a kind of a pain in their faces- looked thoughtfully to the ground or at a wall or to the ceiling. at the first chorus the majority of those who were drinking, dancing, smooching or singing slowed down and fell silent- with the second chorus nearly all had noticed what this about and realized why so many people suddenly fell silent- some now started singing along and a many of us suddenly altered the lyrics to "wednesday, bloody wednesdy". now there was a strange mood in the bar- nearly half of the crowd was quiet - the other half was singing the lyrics and more and more changed to wednesday, bloody wednesdy. then came the "no more" part (in the live version only i guess) and most of the people were singing these lines louder and louder. at this point you could see and feel insecurity and desperation mixed up with anger and hate in the faces of nearly everyone. after the song it was lenny kravitz's "fly away" if i remember correctly- the anger faded and we got back to usual business.

don't ask me why i tell you this story- but i thought it's not uninteresting. some people couldn't get anything done with the song and didn't know how to react at first- in the beginning i didn't know why the dj played that song- i nearly asked myself "how dare he?" but i soon realized that it was our private little peace demonstration- and everyboday stood in line with the song and the meaning; it was a "united we stand... against war!"
