I guess the best way to answer the question is to descibe the relationships I have with my best friends:

Colleen knows *EVERY*thing about me, all my secrets, and loves me anyway. LOL We share a passion for Bon Jovi. We completely understand each other and will tell one another when we're being stupid, even though that almost cost us our friendship before. When it comes down to it, we have the kind of honesty and reality between each other that it hard to find. I think we both realize that no matter who else comes and goes in our lives, we are permanent fixtures for each other. We were roommates for 2 years and now she's in MA, but we're just as emotionally close as ever.

Julie is my "local" best friend. She doesn't know *all* my secrets, but we're open with each other and we can be serious or silly. We have that type of friendship where are doors are always open, no invitation needed, and it doesn't matter if the carpet hasn't been vaccuumed and there's a basket of laundry waiting to be done. We make each other feel good, enjoy each other's company. I've noticed we even have our own cadence of speech we use with each other. We can cry in front of each other or make each other laugh when we're crying.

Susan and Roz are my two really good friends at work. We get along very well, can bitch to one another, can make each other laugh, are there when we're upset. To an extent, we're like open books with one another, but Susan keeps telling me I'm the most well balanced person she knows, so I have her fooled! I keep telling her I'm really totally screwed up, but she says I'm too calm and reasonable for that to be true! LOL We know that what we say to one another isn't going to go beyond each other. We like to plan trips for shopping or musicals or whatever outside work, so the friendships extend beyond the workplace.

I have friends Claudia and Kelly who were among my best friends in high school. We rarely see each other anymore, but when we do, it's a matter of picking up where we left off.

Sonya was my other college roommate and that's a lot how our relationship is. When I visited her in Boston, she asked if it felt weird to be up there and I told her it didn't. It felt like being at home because I was with her and we were riding around and hanging like we always did.

Becky
