There's actually a thing on the telly just now about the psychology behidn killign someone. pretty fascinating and there's quite alot of common traits i share with them.

Have her tell the police, do whatever is required to lodge a formal complaint/notification that she thinks her life is threatened by this guy. Then tell her to buy the most powerful gun she can possibly get her hands on (wouldn't recommend a handgun, those have waiting periods). If this guy backs down like you say, he should be easily persuaded by her displaying a weapon.

regarding guns, there aint no use in them but to spill blood.

Yeah, I'd recommend a shotgun. They excel in the home-defense area. Unless you've got a military-style rifle (c'mon September, hurry up and get here!) they aren't much use except in hunting.

And Jag, avoiding the spilling of blood is the only point in owning a gun. I'm thinking here of your wife avoiding the spilling of her blood. In your case, I'd highly recommend making some kind official protest or complaint. If something bad happens, its on the record for all to see, and then they'll have to arrest the guy.
