I've got a Kenwood discman cd player. I've never had any problems with it. It reads all my cd's, even copies. I had a Sony one before that...and it only needed to be replaced because my dog knocked it off the chair outside on the cement patio one day. I've never had a bigger portable type though. Usually, I listen to my cd's on my computer or in my car. Occassionally on my crappy stereo in my room. It sounds like you've just got bad luck with cd players Dawn. Maybe you could talk to one of the guys at the electronics store and see what he suggests. Also, I'd be returning something that stopped working so quickly.

I know what you mean Dawn, ive had 3 not expensive but not cheap CD players in the last 10 years. Cleaning CDs will work for a little while but I will always end up buying another one. My mum has had a really cheap CD player in the kitchen for the last 7 years though and that plays fine

You can get them for about a tenner from HMV/wollies/Smiths. As I said though, they only work for so long before the problems happens again.

my dads had a massive aiki stereo system (ie seperate cd player, tape deck, power amp, record player etc....) since i can ever remember. talking close to 15 years at least and there's never been one problem with it.

fair enough it's an expensive way to go about it but the sound quality ios much better. you can have speakers round the room hooked up so you get true stereo sound and you can play the tv/ videos/ dvd's through it too.

the one think i will say is that 5.1 mixing is startign to take off in the world of recording now so maybe looking into a 5.1 system is a good idea if you really like to hear whats going on in your music. I'm lookign forward to see how its utilised to it's potential and im sure andy wll fill you in ont he technical jargon about it

Interesting, would a dirty cd player be unable to actually read that discs are not even in the player ? I put a cd in the player and the player says there isnt one in there !!!!!!!
