I just checked the new fees at ticketmaster - I'm copying this directly from their site:
_______________________________
Tickets (Rod Stewart)
Reserved Admission US $99.50 x 2
Total Convenience Charge(s) US $12.20 x 2

Order Processing Charge(s) US $3.10
Standard Mail no charge

TOTAL CHARGES US $226.50

So for 2 tickets to see Rod Stewart it's an additional $24.40 in "convenience" charges and then an order "processing" charge of $3.10 - making a total of $27.50 extra for buying just 2 tickets.

It sucks

Kathleen

£3????? That's clearly wishful thinking....

Using Rod Stewart again as an example

Tickets (Rod Stewart)
FULL PRICE TICKET £65.00 x 2
Total Service Charge(s)

£8.00 x 2

Standard Post
(includes Order Processing Fee)

£2.75

TOTAL CHARGES £148.75

So - on that's £18.75 ($35us) added to £130 worth of tickets.

Any which way you look at it, it's a damn rip off. Especially with a) so many concerts not having any cash box offices you can use to avoid booking fees, b) the cost of administering the service being substantially lower since the internet was invented and c) the fact that first class post actually only costs 32pence.

I like the way it says "Standard post (includes order processing fee). Could someone tell me exactly how this differs from the service charge I have already paid.

£3? pah!

I think that my ticket for Bon Jovi last June was £45 and then there was a £5 charge and £5 for postage (which should have been refunded due to the fact that I picked them up at the venue)

Thinking about it, how do Ticketbastard maintain their monopoly in the States... There would clearly be a lot of profit in venues selling tickets themselves at a slightly lower charge. Are they somehow in bed with Clear Channel?

Not that the UK duopoly (See & Ticketmaster) is much better - clearly some collusion going on, given the nearly identical fees.

If that ever happens again, do make the effort to place a phone call to their customer service line.

See Tickets failed to deliver my Muse tix on time in Novmeber and were happy to give me a refund.

Not that that excuses the shit service.

See Tickets and Ticketmaster are owned by Live Nation UK (previously Clear Channel Entertainment) as are a large amount of the Carling venues.

Clear Channel keep their monopoly in the States because they own the venues, the radio stations AND the ticket sellers. If you want your band played on the radio you need to have your tour promoted by CCE and tickets sold through their seller ie. Ticketmaster, otherwise your airplay is non-existent ...

As for the most I'd pay, I paid £300 to a tout for my Jovi Shepherd's Bush ticket and it was worth every penny IMO. For a large stadium gig, it depends on the band. I saw U2 in Dublin and the ticket, B&B and flights cost me less than the face value ticket in the UK - no way I'd have paid £90 to see them in Manchester - but I was more than happy to shell that out for Jovi in MK. I reckon my limit would be £100 for that kind of show.
