Default What part of "fighting for my life" does he not understand?

His side of the story:
Quote:
Las Vegas cops are on the hunt for a hulking mixed martial arts fighter (and porn star) with a violent history who they say put his porn star girlfriend in the hospital in a brutal attack at her Las Vegas Nevada home...

Jon Koppenhaver...(who) brawls under the name War Machine... broke his silence about the alleged attack in a series of anguished tweets...
"I love you and hope you're okay. I came him (sic) early to surprise you and help you set up for your convention. I can't believe what I found and can't believe what happened. All I wanted was to surprise you and help and do something nice...now this..."

"I'm not a bad guy, I went to surprise my gf, help her set up her show and to give her an engagement ring and ended up fighting for my life..."

"The cops will never give me fair play, never believe me. Still deciding what to do but at the end of the day it's all just heart breaking."

"I only wish that man hadn't been there and that Christy & I would be happily engaged.I don't know y I'm so cursed. One day truth will come out," his last tweet said.
Her side of the story:
Quote:
At around 2AM...Jon Koppenhaver arrived unannounced to my home in Las Vegas, NV after he broke up with me in May (and) moved out of my house back to San Diego.

...He found myself and one other fully clothed and unarmed in the house. Without a single word spoken, he began beating my friend; once he was finished he...turned his attention to me...

My injuries include 18 broken bones around my eyes, my nose is broken in 2 places, I am missing teeth and several more are broken...I have a fractured rib and severely ruptured liver from a kick to my side. My leg is so badly injured I have not been able to walk on my own...He...sawed much of my hair off with...(a) knife...

He took my phone and cancelled all of my plans for the following week...(When) he left me on the floor...I ran out my back door...I kept running through the neighborhood knocking on doors. Finally, one answered and I was brought to the hospital...

After many months of fear and pressure to keep this man happy...I feel that I can no longer put myself in this situation...

Warning: Web page contains graphic photos and descriptions
I guess he'll have to hock that engagement ring to hire a lawyer -- unless he has the one who handled his previous assault charges on retainer.

It's easy to say, "Why doesn't he or she just LEAVE a partner like that?" But it just doesn't appear to be that easy to DO.

Anyone who uses twitter for "poingnant" means should be rounded up and shot regardless of their crimes real or imagined.

I'm only half joking about that - in 50 years time our historical record will be 40 digit vapid mumblings???? **** that.

"One hundred and forty-character vapid mumblings", actually. As in:
"I beat the crap out of u, I concentrated on your face so u cannot attract other guys or work in porn anymore, I love u, and I hope u are OK."

The damage that people do to each other in the name of love is beyond comprehension - my comprehension anyway.

Default Good news -- he's off the streets!

MMA fighter War Machine arrested
New York Daily News: Simi Valley, Calif. police honed in on...Jonathan Koppenhaver at an extended stay hotel. He had pizza and cash when he was busted 'without incident,' police said.

Earlier in the day, authorities had removed two snakes from the San Diego-area home of the hulking fighter, now booked at the Ventura County Jail...

An extended stay hotel, huh? I guess he was rehearsing for the "extended stay" he can look forward to in prison! His current charges:
  • 2 felony batteries, 1 for strangulation
  • 2 felony domestic violence with great bodily injury
  • Felony coercion with the threat of force
  • Felony assault with a deadly weapon
  • Misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon

Don't know why attempted murder didn't make the list -- because she escaped?

My Mother lived one town over from Simi Valley and she taught in the Simi Valley schools for 30 years. She grew up here in Manhattan and I will never understand her liking for that area. Most everyone I met in Simi Valley, was extremely conservative and completely paranoid. No one would even invite you to their homes for a drink - there was practically no mixing at all.

"Extremely conservative and completely paranoid?" That certainly fits his criminal profile!

On crime shows both true and fictional, I've heard detectives speak of a criminal's "comfort zone." I never doubted that he hadn't gotten far -- not because he didn't have time, but because he strikes me as someone who can't function if he's not feeling completely "comfortable" and in control. I was betting on either Las Vegas, Los Angeles, or San Diego where he'd been living since May. Though it's near LA, Simi Valley took me by surprise...but guess what? He GREW UP there!

Default Lady and the Tramp?

Koppenhaver's attorney Brandon Sua has announced that his client will not contest extradition from California to Nevada. Now unfold your handkerchiefs and cue the violins:
Quote:
"The hardest thing for my client is seeing the responses from the media, the public. There's been a lot of statements on one side. The media has done a good job of painting my client as a monster, but my client is not a monster. He is a good guy."

A statement would come "when the time is right," Sua said, adding that his client did not do "anything illegal."
It's not illegal to beat up a porn star? Why -- because Mack's not a "nice girl," or because her kind think violence is sexy? Did Koppenhaver beat up the guy who was with Mack because HE was beating her up? Or maybe Mack beat HERSELF up and is blaming it on him!

No doubt Sua is working up a killer defense (if you'll pardon the expression), based on a sob story about how Koppenhaver's police officer father died of a heart attack despite his 13-year-old son's attempt to give him CPR. Is it any wonder that his mother then turned to drugs, forcing him to pretty much raise his two younger siblings?

In addition, I'm sure he's also digging up every speck of dirt on Christy Mack that Koppenhaver can supply. If they can convince the jury that Mack had deceived him into believing they'd reconciled or provoked him by sending "mixed signals," they might decide that Mack doesn't "qualify" for justice -- she merely experienced a "consequence" of her "chosen lifestyle."

But Sua is going to have a hard time writing Mack off as just another gold digging tramp when his client has appeared in twelve porno films between 2009 and 2010. And Koppenhaver might have continued with his brilliant career if he hadn't had to take two years off to go to jail for -- WAIT FOR IT!!! -- assaulting people!

Meanwhile, Mack has been offered constructive surgery from dentists and plastic surgeons, and has received nearly $100K in donations. Of course, she's also been accused of not being worthy of public sympathy. Indeed, someone went as far as to suggest that her donations would be better spent on disfigured war veterans!

No doubt this is their idea of a "nice girl" -- the one who turned Koppenhaver in:
Quote:
Mary Casamento was staying at the same hotel where War Machine was hiding...she heard commotion and saw a woman run out of (Koppenhaver's) room -- bloodied. She called cops who came and arrested him

Mary scored a $20,000US reward...from Christy's family and...from Pawn Stars star Corey Harrison -- but she's not cashing in...She says she's dying of cancer...(and has) decided to give the dough to a...battered women's shelter. Give this woman a reward award.
Well, I hope the woman who got away comes forward, but if Koppenhaver hired her for the night, I doubt it. And in the meantime, don't give Christy Mack money, support, or sympathy because sticking up for "trashy" porn stars just isn't done?

Default 9/13 Update from Christy

Via Instagram:
...I've had several dentist visits to make eating more comfortable and make my smile look more normal...I've...(been) made aware that I'm very lucky to have my vision...since the muscle is tethered by the fragments from the blowout fracture in my left eye.

My multiple nose fractures will be fixed in the next couple of months...(It has)...shifted on the inside...causing breathing issues... My top lip will regain movement in less than 6 months...looking forward to using straws again. My liver seems to be all right. I was admitted back to the hospital shortly after I was released the first time for some minor treatment...

Cutting what was left of my hair off, and losing 15 lbs (it's a lot when you're 5'1") made me feel even further away from myself. It's hard to look in the mirror every day and see someone you do not know...(H)aving makeup done and dressing up for yesterday's charity event...made me feel more normal and beautiful for the first time in a very long time.

The event that I went to was for Face Forward, a non-profit charity that funds...(reconstructive) surgeries for women and children...They are not funding me; my surgeries are being donated by other doctors. I met many wonderful people and look forward to working more with them in the future.

Meanwhile, Christy's accused assailant War "Jonathan Koppenhaver" Machine sits in jail awaiting trial on 32 charges including "attempted murder, sexual assault, battery, coercion...lewdness...battery constituting domestic violence, sexually motivated coercion and witness tampering." If he's having trouble raising bail and legal fees, he could take advantage of War Machine being his legal name and try his hand at suing this guy:
Quote:
(When) Wendell Oliveira (made) his (Ultimate Fighting Championship) debut...he had to answer several questions regarding Jonathan Koppenhaver’s alleged assault of ex-girlfriend Christy Mack.

Oliveira and Koppenhaver are both known as "War Machine," and some fans thought the Brazilian veteran was the one accused of the brutal assault.

"That was awful," Oliveira (said). "When the news came out, a lot of friends called me asking what happened because the stories had no photo in Brazil...We’re not the same person."

Oliveira...doesn’t plan to get rid of the "War Machine" nickname. "I won’t change my nickname because I’m the real 'war machine'...I honor this name, he doesn’t honor the sport. He has to find a new nickname for himself."

Default Update: Koppenhaver suicide attempt delays court date

Here's the latest -- Days before he was due in court:
Quote:
(A) corrections officer...discovered (Koppenhaver) in his cell with a piece of linen tied to his bed and around his neck. He was described as being purple in the face and unresponsive. The officer cut the cloth away and the former fighter began breathing again...
Quote:
Raw Story: The suicide note...begins with a quotation from the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche — “To die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly.”

...(He) sign(s)...off with another quote from Nietzsche, “Verily, I often laugh at the weaklings who think themselves good because they have no claws.”
Nietzsche? This guy is deep -- and I'll bet you thought he was just another pretty face!

And what has he to say to his lady love?
Quote:
MMA News: I truly love you and planned on being with you forever. I know...I wasn’t the best BF at times. When I left you in May it didn’t take me long to realize my mistake.

When we re-united I was 100% dedicated (but) something seemed different about you. It drove me crazy, but I knew that you still loved me because you kept telling me to get you the ring...Finding what I found that night was devastating...Not just the unfaithfulness, but the way U cared for him...

If I could do it all over again I’d just have laid down and let him beat me up. Maybe you still loved me enough to stop him and make him leave...Maybe you still loved me enough (or) to end that fling and re-commit to me…I forgive you, please forgive me, I love you...
Seeing as he tried, convicted, and nearly executed Christy all at once, forgiving her is the least he can do. It was a crime of passion, certainly. But was it a CRIME?
Quote:
It is one thing to catch a case when you set out to commit a crime, but catching a case when you have nothing but good intentions in your heart is just so hard to accept. The severity of the charges makes it that much worse.

They wanna charge me with battery and DV (domestic violence)? Fine, do it, but don’t railroad me with B.S. fantasy charges like: Rape! Attempted murder! Kidnapping! And burglary! It’s fcking ridiculous. And it’s making it impossible for justice.
He's right about the burglary charge -- entering an OCCUPIED dwelling without consent and committing a crime is called ROBBERY. In Nevada, not allowing someone to call the police or leave their residence is legal grounds for being charged with kidnapping (for which OJ Simpson was sentenced 8-30 years). The probability that you would have continued to beat Christy if she hadn't escaped is grounds for being charged with attempted murder. And you're not being charged with rape, but "open and gross lewdness." Christy has stated that you told her you INTENDED to rape her -- but you couldn't, to put it kindly, get started. And you call yourself an alpha male!

Unfortunately, War Machine is right about another thing: If he can convince the jury that Christy had sent him too many "mixed signals" about the status of their relationship, they might decide that his reaction had been "provoked" and he had not acted "unreasonably."
