Comparisons are never good IMO. Because a fair comparison will only result from two exact things, which is impossible. That's why comparing is unfair. There are always different factors.

So what is one leaders success judged on....? The success of leaders previous to him. Politics is all comparison. Comparisons in spending, benefit, employment etc.

No, one leader's success should be judged in itself, never by comparison, neither with previous leaders or contemporary leaders. Was someone who ruled after Hitler successful because he didn't invade any country? I don't think so, and then by comparison he would be.

For instance, I don't care if the government is spending more on education than before and therefore by comparison it's all a success. If it's still not enough it doesn't work for me and I will consider it no success.

Why is Blair given a Northern constituency to make sure he wins and can be Prime Minister then?
