Thats true in relation to the fact that if someone supports labour, they probably aren't going to vote for a local Tory MP. Don't underestimate the role a local council has to play though. Especially if council taxes will increasingly be controlled locally.

Also, unless there is an outright majority, the parliament becomes hung (not literally).

research shows that local issues have up to now, played a relatively small part in the general election..

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, despite what you said earlier.

Not everyone knows about it though - I was explaining it to the whole.. U aren't the only person in this thread & u were confusing poor old Keeper.

If you'd left the first part of my sentence attached, that explanation would have been unnecessary.

Ok - I meant to say first sentence attached, as opposed to first part of sentence.

I pointed out why people normally voted based on who would ultimately end up in power - then pointed out how local MP's can have an impact - especially with the greater power local MP's could soon have over council taxes - which could become about 10 different taxes.

They can indeed have an impact, and as for the greater powers, they dont play any part in the process yet. As far as I could see Keeper thought you voted for your local mp, as opposed to voting for the party / candidate. Whereas in reality, local politics really arent that important to people when it comes round to general election time..as such. Our form of government is still centralised.
