Patriotic nonsense like that is what makes Americans the laughing stock of the whole world.

America the Beautiful
Words by Katharine Lee Bates; Music by Parke W. Hewins

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self the country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stem impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man's avail
Men lavished precious life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

OK, I'll bite. Americans are proud to be Americans and live in the United States. But all Americans, with the exception of Native Americans, have ancestors who come from somewhere else. This is part of their ancestry and Americans seem to be very proud of where their ancestors came from. Jon does not think he's Italian. He doesn't pronounce himself Italian for better stature or to claim some sort of cultural supremacy and identity. He is an Italian-American. In America people like to hyphenate: African-American, Irish-American, Italian-American... it celebrates their ancestors who came to American and the country they live in today. You are Americans, but you feel a close association with the culture or the history or the folklore or the food or the languaage or the traditions of the place/background your families came from.

I'm proud to be American. I'm also proud of my heritage. It's not mutually exclusive. If you don't live in America, you may not understand - which is find. But you don't have the right to criticize it either. Stick to criticizing what you know - which, ironically, is very very little for many on this board.
The fan club board sucks because it's full of hormonal teeny-boppers (regardless of age) but I'm really beginning to hate this board too - the anti-American sentiment is done with such venom and pride that it's a bit psychotic. Debating is a preferred sport. How did a band that prides itself on positive outlooks and optimistic lyrics wind up with such negative, pessimistic and miserable fans (granted those are just the very vocal ones ) - guess those who need the spirits lifted the most seek out the songs to do it. Too bad it's not working...

Is this a comedy song?. Cause i cant tell where the crap ends and words begin.
