Default Why do Canadians.....

Why do Canadians base their whole identity on not being American?

Sad, eh?

You misunderstood:

British person: What are special about Canadians and their way of life?

Canadian: We're not American.

That is a question I often ponder. I have alot of Canadian friends, co-workers, and relatives because I live in Michigan which is right next door to Canada. They (the Canadians I know) don't like the politics (surprising, eh? Neither do I!) and call Americans "ethnocentric." They do make it very clear that they are NOT American. BUT they have no problem WORKING over here, shopping, vacationing, etc. That's fine. I guess politics aside, we all get along. I know if shit hits the fan, I'm 30 minutes from Canada, so I hope they let my Italian-German-American butt in!!!!!!

Because they don't wish to be considered as "another bloody yank" by Europeans. I don't have anything against Americans, but as a whole I think they are rather an arrogant nation. Arrogance comes from the way the media and the government/s portray the public. If I am right they make you believe that you are the best? Why? Because you are American!

It's a good way of building national pride, and I don't think my views are far from the truth.

If you go to New York City, you will see signs proclaiming it as the capital of the world. If you go to the Empire State Building it says it is the capital of the capital of the world. What a joke eh? There is no other place that is as overrated as New York. I lived in normal 'York' in England and that is a far more interesting place to visit, even after living there for four years.
