you forget the people who are some of your idols are/were as you describe

end of story - i like the 80s and 90s stuff more than the 2000+ BJ... some don't - end it there

You don't need to have long hair to rock. I don't recall ever seeing anyone play an instrument with their hair. Hair has never written a song. Hair cannot sing.

so did gillan
so did JBJ
as did Michael Schenker
as did Page
as did E. Van Halen

as did Ritchie Blackmore

^^^ in fact when his hair started getting thin on top he made sure to get a very long wig to make up for it!!!

i love all these artists but they rocked more with long hair and their fans would say the same:

gillan - still great voice, but fat, grey, and can't quite get the VERY high notes
JBJ - enough said
Schenker - drunk, alcoholic, who is so in debt he's been chucked out of UFO and has to sell his guitar
Van Halen - has done nothing since 1998 - many of his fans disillusioned with him and the band
Page - very little since 98 other than a short Black Crowes flirtation
dickinson - still has the voice, but now a Christian appearing on UK morning tv talking about how he loves God, and his favourite hymns

Blackmore - left deep purple and rainbow (2 of greatest rock bands ever - certainly 2 of most influential also) to play medieval porn music with his wife at the bottom of his garden with the fairies
