It's a "music" hall of fame

"Rock and Roll" died in the 50s (Elvis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry), not even the Beatles, Stones and Zeppelin are rock and roll.

2pac is one of the most influential rappers of all time and he deserves to be in the hall.

Rock has evolved since the early days when white people appropriated it from black people, making it mainstream. The definition of what is considered Rock is fairly broad, with crossover into Country. Whatever a faction may argue against another faction being rock or not, factually: Rock doesn't stop being rock across its various genres.

You can't argue for more inclusion of Country as a response to Rap being included when Country already has a well served and established institution. That is exactly like saying, "Well, if you're going to have this black guy in, then you gotta let more of these white folks in that were already getting in and have another corner of the world they are in, also." Yes, perhaps Rap should have its own Hall of Fame, but like Country, Rap shares roots with and has plenty of crossover with Rock and will have one foot there and one foot outside it until that day comes.
Very nicely put!

Although I would prefer if every popular genre had its own HOF of similar status as R&R HOF, then a lot of these 'problems' would not occur. But until then, inclusion of all is probably the way to go, even if that comes at the expense of certain rock purists.

If you recognize that rap and country both have roots in rock and influence rock, then there is no argument to justify keeping the likes of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton etc... out. If the RnRHOF is the preeminent HOF for music, then great writers and performers from other genres should get in.

He is the Michael Jordan of Rap(if you know what I mean). Today's iconic rappers are influenced by him. Heck he even drew the white people to the genre which was quite impossible back in the day.

You can read this article if you're not yet convinced

Default In a word, $$$$$

It's the same reason why Madonna and Michael Jackson are in it: in hopes of scoring membership/admission/merchandise revenues out of their large fan bases; and donation revenues out of them (or their estates) given as a "token" of their "gratitude."
