London's great.

Glasgows the nicest little city int he world, London's the nicest big city IMO

dependign where you're driving to from London....

it's roughly a 10 hour drive form London to Glasgow, probably a bit shorter than that for Edinburgh.

To get to the border you're talking 6-7 hours roughly.

The good thing about Scotland if you're driving is that once you're here. Just about everything is well within driving difference. There's an hiur on the motorway between glasgow n edinburgh, dundees a few hours away as is aberdeen, stirling etc....

fort williams about the same distance away from glasgow that dundee is from edinburgh etc...

according tot he good folk at the aa site:

london to glasgow is 412.6 miles and around 8 and a half hours from london (which is probably right since i was taking bus stops into consideration earlier)

edinburgh is 413.0 miles and 8 hr 40 min

for culture and history edinburgh is where you want to be going. for fun and nightlife glasgow's where it's at and for sheep shagging you want to look into aberdeen

I'll keep that in mind

The 8 to 10 hours isn't bad at all.

How far to the highlands? That's what I really want to see (secretly hoping I meet a Christopher Lambert *sigh*)

the highlands are a good distance away.

but if you go to edinburgh you're within driving distance of inverness which really is the last bastion of relative civilisation up there before you get into the total out and out highlands aviemore up there is beautiful and the cairngorms pretty much dominate the areas. a natural beautifal wonder.

the drive from glasgow to fort william is spectacular and you've got loch lommond a stones throw away from the north west of glasgow too.
