Yeah give us an update. It's been a long while since I followed the music scene there.

As far as I know we don't really have bands like BJ... most of the 'rock' bands there lean towards the 'alt-rock' side. We do have some metal bands around (underground). Oh yeah and we have a Britney wannabe too!
I'm confused now - yomamasofat are you from Jakarta also?

who's the britney wannabe ?? LOL

it's not exactly the same but i told my tutor i will read up on Javanese/Indonesian history over the Summer (he's one of the leading experts on it - he's devoted his life to studying it) - he gets paid a hell of a lot for it also!!!

Hi In Jakarta (and other big cities in Indonesia), mid-level people still love 'heavy metal'...and for the young generations,they love Punk,Hardcore,Rap Metal and Underground (grindcore/black metal). There are so many 'underground bands' here which had go international, such as "Tengkorak, Trauma, Sucker Heads", etc.
But low-level people always like "Dangdut" musics. It's an original music from Indonesia (such as Samba~Brazil). And a "King of Dangdut" ~ Rhoma Irama said that he's a biggest fan of Deep Purple,and he influenced by their music. We call it "Rock~Dangdut"...
