I had the Wii, it was lots of fun in the beginning but after a month I didn't play with it anymore. That's unheard of for me on a new console.

I sold it, got PS3, already had XBOX360. Wii never again.

(btw with the PS3 Synax-controls you can also play the same way as the Wii, not alot games tho (yet))

Those cool fiddly control things aren't so cool anymore once it's not new anymore.

How were the '' '' there to imply that?

If not chosen yet, surely you would go for the 360 i hope?

(yeah yeah, didn't read the whole thread)

Yep, I think it is worth it along with the other features it has. X360 is a good console and I'm getting one soon, but PS3 I won't buy until they lower the prices by at least 200€. And I'm not alone with that opinion.

And Jim, I don't know where you get your info, but here's a partial list of what's coming for Wii in the near future:

Looks like more than "cool fiddly things" to me. Fire Emblem -series alone is a reason to buy any console. Too many people diss Nintendo for being a "child-orientated", but the truth is that there are a lot of other games as well. Everyone should try Wii with "real" games like Resident Evil or such and for example the Fire Emblem-series and other Nintendo -exclusive games. You might be surprised.

I have PS2 and GC as well and I haven't played the PS2 since I bought Wii. And I haven't needed the GC as Wii plays all the games anyway.

No you're definitely not - I share the sentiment! Overpriced for the average gamer but amazingly powerful. To be fair, you never usually get truly GREAT games at the release of a new console and have to wait a while before game developers do something special. It is often the best idea to wait until the console prices drop to something a little more reasonable because by that time there are more often than not some extremely good games on the market.

As for paying £180 for the Wii to play games you can get on other systems, to play games with pretty tacky graphics, or to play retro games that you could get for free in decent enough quality for your PC, you may as well take a wad of cash and set fire to it IMO.

How can you possibly say it's beside the point? I already own the game, and really enjoy it. Not once when I've played it on PS2 have I thought "this would be a much better gaming experience if I could use a light-gun, or even better, a new motion sensing controller". When I did play the Wii version, I didn't see enough to convince me to buy a Wii just so I could play the game. So how is it beside the point? At the end of the day, it's the games that make it worthwhile. There is no point buying the hardware if the games are no cope.

Do you work in marketing, sales, or retail in the UK? Seriously, do you? How the hell can you tell me I don't know what I'm talking about? I have seen the sales figures. I've seen the amount of Wii's stores are receiving. I've seen and spoken to customers and consumers, often angry that they can't get their hands on the console. I've spoken to distributors who tell me they cannot get any more consoles than we are receiving. Believe me when I say they are not getting enough. If every other country in the world is fairing much better, then clearly something is wrong over here. But knowing what I'm talking about when it comes to sales and marketing - from an unbiased point of view with no affiliation to the gaming world other than selling their products- I'm smart enough to know that there are the same problems elsewhere. Trust me when I say that these reports given out to the public domain don't always reflect what's happening in the business world.
I'm not about to argue that the Wii hasn't sold more than PS3 at present. If you have a read back, everyone has agreed that the price for a PS3 is too high. That is causing the lack of sales for that console. Take into consideration that the console was launched in March, rather than October in time for the Xmas rush, that effects sales. Now we're coming into an interesting period. People WILL be willing to pay for a PS3 now as a Christmas present. It's an awful large amount of outlay to buy a console outwith the Xmas season, but this is the time of year people spend. And the fact of the matter is there are enough PS3s in storerooms to meet the demand. There are not enough Wiis at present. Nintendo are either going to have to weather the storm of not being able to meet demand whilst Sony and Microsoft are raking the money in, or they are going to have to release the consoles they have been stock-piling this last year in anticipation of a three-way console war this Xmas.

Like I say, we won't get a true reflection of that until next year at least. If it doesn't sell well over the Xmas season, then claims of a flop will be easier to justify. And as I said earlier, the games are what it's all about. The list you gave - I didn't see any on there that said "OOMPH". Whereas we all know Metal Gear Solid 4, GTA IV, Devil May Cry 4 - HUGE games that sell by the bucketload - are coming out next year. These titles alone WILL sell PS3s, on the strength of the game alone. The games catalogue will have a lot of big-hitters in there over the next few years - developers trust Sony because of the massive success of the PS2.
And as for the competitors having new consoles with the same power out in a few years - both you and I know that somewhere in Japan people are working on PS4, and even dreaming up PS5 right now. Microsoft and Nintendo are going to need a lot more than consoles that only match their 'last generation' competitor.

It's beside the point, because you already had the game. The question is, would you have been impressed if you hadn't seen or played the game before.

I don't work there, I never said I did and I never said you didn't know what you were talking about. But I did say that everywhere else in the world Wii is outselling PS3 and X360 and that's not possible if you don't have enough products on the shelves.

Read for yourself if you don't believe me:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6265368.stm
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=25833

It's actually outselling the two combined. Not possible if there aren't enough products.

Looks that way.

Talk to anyone in the games industry and the biggest disappointment this year has been the poor sales of PS3. It's already a flop. It might start to sell better, but it'll take ages before the industry will really start to support it.

Yeah, but you and I also know that PS3 was in the works for a long time and they still managed to make it too expensive and hard to code on. Microsoft has been working on the next Xbox for a lot longer than Sony have on PS4 and I would imagine that Nintendo has a clear strategy on their next console also. I would imagine they'll release the plans soon enough.

Ice out of that few dozen games you listed coming out for the wii the only ones that i'd probably pick up would be tiger woods (which is out on the 360 and the wii stick thing is supposed to be terrible for it)

madden (again which is out on the 360)

the boxing ones (which i can't see being better than fight night on the 360)

and mario kart (which i can play on my sisters DS whenever i want)

unless it's a strategy i.e. rome total war etc... type thing i'm not that into gaming on my own these days. i'm not going to spend hours locked away playing tomb raider or final fantasy. it's much more fun playing sports or whatever against friends or someone you know (one of the best perks about having a twin brother)

Every point to be made has already been made.

Since I am old and can't adjust to the xbox controllers, I must say I prefer the wii. But I am not playing games much. I like the Wii when I have grown ups over to play tennis and bowling and that sort of lame adult stuff. My son likes to box with me on the wii, but otherwise prefers the xbox. When I play xbox with my son, I am ordered to hid behind a car while he takes care of the 'bad guys' and when it is safe, I can come out .... cause I can't defend myself ... I keep running into walls etc....

So, if you are young - go with the xbox. If you are not so young and want some game to entertain your drunk friends - get the wii.
