not a funny thing to joke about iceman i know people in Ulster who've had punishment beatings or even been killed by guys both from the IRA and their supposed "own side"

it's not a nice thing to experience joking or not.

I never said Wales wasn't part of Britain, I just said that God Save the Queen isn't the Welsh National Anthem. Which it isn't.

Davesta is right

the whole UK thing is a joke to me - a long joke admittedly... but for me you are whatever you feel you are. I remember having a big argument with someone when for nationality i wrote English instead of British

but for me i don't even think of myself as that, i think of myself as from manchester - but not a Mancunian

hard to explain

No, it's not.

I'm just trying to point out the pointlessness of your debate. Wrong place for it. This was supposed to be a fun thread, not about national hatred.

that's what it's turned into though

for me anyone who has to feel the need to belong to a nation has problems. There is a difference between acknowledging perhaps a love for your countries culture or quirks but to feel the need to belong to something other than yourself....

it's beyond me - group mentality perhaps

Its all about being part of a community. & thats whats going wrong this country - fragmented communities full of ppl who don't care for this country anymore....

bang on the head Mike.

being proud to be British, Welsh, Manc or whatever isn't a bad thing as it's so often portrayed as.

"Wind of Change" by The Scorpions.

It was played when the wall came down and I think it has a very special meaning for a lot of people...

Was there not talk of changin' the Scots National Anthem from "Flower of Scotland"? I'm sure I heard that durin' the Six Nations....or maybe they're just gonna change the song they sing before their matches.....

The way I understand it is that "God Save the Queen" is the offical Anthem for the UK...but the Welsh, Scots and Northern Irish Anthems aren't seen to be "offical" for their respective counties....at least that's what I've been told........

They really should change "God Save the Queen"....the monarchy has no place in modern Britain.....
