So, I saw American Idiot last night, and it was tremendous. I had a lot of fears, both as a Green Day nut, and a Broadway nut. None of my fears were realized. I'm writing a full review for my blog, I'll post it here when it's done.

According to the tour T-shirts I saw last night last show would be in Oakland?

The segment of my last blog dealing with American Idiot:
Quote:
-Having that Green Day date last is actually a great segue into the fact that Teresa and I finally got to see the American Idiot Musical last night. I have to say, I had many great reservations about this show. To understand why, one has to understand what the AI album means to me. When it came out in 2004, I went through an obsessive phase with that record. I listened to it in full every night for about 6 months, and analyzed every aspect of the lyrics and liner notes to try and piece together the story. Because of this, I was nervous from Green Day standpoint. Also added into the mix, I'm a HUGE Broadway buff. I've seen hundreds of shows, listened to the soundtracks of hundreds more, and worked in theater, so I was also leary as to whether the music could translate to Broadway. I'm very happy to say that both sets of misgivings were unfounded. I won't get into spoiler details of the plot, but the source material of the story was kept, and almost every song was kept with the same thematic meaning as it held in the original album (with a notable exception being Extraordinary Girl, which is about an entirely different character than Whatsername) and the tracks from 21st Century Breakdown were integrated seamlessly. The set design and lighting was exceptional, possibly the best I've seen in a Broadway production, or at least a close second to Next To Normal. From a casting standpoint, I have no complaints whatsoever. The five leads were exceptional, and the ensemble was actually way above my expectations. The band (which is on stage the entire show, and consists of two guitarists, a bassist, keyboardist, drummer, and upright bassist) were exceptional as well, and did a great job of replicating the sonic textures of the album. All in all, I'd very overwhelmingly recommend this show to anyone who has either an interest in Green Day, or an interest in theater.

They've added more dates since I posted those. Only one that matters to me at the moment is August 14th though

I love AI and like 21CBD, so I wouldn't hesitate to go see this. Maybe it comes over to Europe?

Saw the Queen musical once, it was great!

Forgot to mention, we saw them at Manchester on the 16th of June!!! Just awesome!! We got half of Dookie. What an amazing night, then i managed to get last min tix on the day for Wembley and took my eldest son.... The 16th in Manc was the better of the two gigs, prob as i was standing and with my other half as i missed the atmosphere with him not being there at Wembley....

Don't know when they will be back in the UK... I have a few gigs to keep me going between now and (hopefully) Jovi next year and the return of GD...

Looking at Bowling for soup in oct... Devil Driver, 36 Crazyfists, Less Than Jake and Zebrahead in Nov and Bullet For My Valentine in Dec.... Anything inbetween is a bonus!!

I went to the Wembley show on the 19th June, and have to say I was very impressed, probably up there with Muse with a live band that has blown me away. They put on a great show, had the crowd in raptours and busted out 33 songs plus medleys. Billie Joe just has the crowd eating out of his hand, and I thought bringing some kids up to sing with them was sweet, must be such a great buzz for them!
Im a late comer to Green Day, only liked the odd single here and there but was hooked by American Idiot, and superb album from start to finish. 21st Century Breakdown is great too, and I absolutely adore 21 guns, excellent song. I need to brush up on my old Green Day though!!

What a ****ing show on Saturday night. I can honestly say that Green Day is the only band I've ever seen whose on the same level on Bruce & E Street in a live setting. The energy given off by this band, and particularly Billie Joe Armstrong is off the charts. From a setlist standpoint, they've been changing things up much more than usual, and I heard several songs I hadn't heard in the 3 previous shows I'd seen.
On top of all that, due to a nice little inside connection we had with security, we all got Soundcheck-Used and autographed Tre' Cool drumsticks, and we each got a Mike Dirnt pic.

wow what a setlist! looks like you had a blast! I love how they played 10 songs of American Idiot. (something they didnt even do ON the american idiot tour except when they played the full album) I can live without she's a rebel (least favorite on the album) but homecoming not showing up on the setlists since the promo tour saddens me - Its my favorite of the album. Also, only playing 5 songs from their new album kinda sucks too - I really love the album. And IMO American Euology shouldve stuck in the setlists. Id rather hear that over that dreadful new single. Awesome you got the drumsticks as well.
