Having now listened to The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, I think my problem with the new Alice In Chains is that they seem to have forgotten that they need to mix up their long doomy crushing songs with some shorter, sharper raw bursts of energy ... Look at some of their biggest songs: Them Bones, We Die Young, Would? There's nothing really like that on the last two albums, probably the closest they come is Check My Brain, but its not really the same

Incidentally, I'm still trying to decide whether to go to the Alexandra Palace gig or not!

Two months later and I actually really like the album now, I do think it's better than Black Gives Way To Blue - while that album was so relentlessly heavy as to be sort of oppressive, this one has a greater diversity of styles and gives itself room to breathe through the poppier songs. Plus the guitar work is awesome

Doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make the Ally Pally gig
