Seriously?

It's quite interesting to look back at my opinion of them back then and see that it's not changed a bit. If anything, I'm even more perplexed by the hype they got. I honestly can't think of a more undeservingly overhyped UK band in the past 20 years.

They had a couple of decent tunes but they were no better than the Kaiser Chiefs, The Automatic or any of those other bands cutting around at that point. Bands like Bloc Party kicked the shit out of them if you ask me, christ even the Enemy were putting out better tunes.

Yes seriously.

They released their first album which got ridiculous acclaim, but it is over-rated. A great album highlighting a witty side and some great instrumentals. It's difficult to listen to now, though. It's dated and you outgrow it really quickly.

The second album built on what they did well the first time around. Clever lyrics and harder sound. Ranging styles from the likes of 'Brianstorm' to 'Do Me A Favour' to '505'.

'Humbug' completely changed everything and turned them into a different band. It's a fantastic album but it needs to be given a chance. It grows on you and it's best points take a while to reveal themselves. Every single b-side is excellent, too. I don't think there is a bad song from that era. Simply brilliant.

Their latest album wasn't as good as the previous but certainly still a good record. 'Don't Sit Down' and 'Brick By Brick' highlighted their humorous side, and it was just a pleasant record to listen to.

And Alex Turner can write one hell of a lyric. He is damn good.

One of their best points is that they're constantly looking to improve and grow. You can see the change in style and attitude from each album to the next.

As for their live shows, you either like it or you don't. They stand and play their songs. For some people on this board, in particular, that's not enough. I don't mind as long as it sounds good.

Can't believe their debut was out 8 years ago! Just like Keane and Kaisers, never managed to replicate their amazing first albums. Saw them in 2007 though and they were pretty decent live, like ^ said if the music is good quality the lead singer doesn't have to be bombing about the stage to make a good front man. Look at Johnny Borrell, nob head of the highest order, good frontman but Shute music.

Well like I said, it's a love or hate thing.

A lot of people like to see energy and showmanship on stage, which is fine. Arctic Monkeys don't fall into that category.

I kind of hated them when they hit the big time because they started the influx of indie bands with accents singing about chips and gravy.

They seem to be a good live though and Josh Homme is in their corner so they can't be bad. I will delve into their stuff soon.

Josh Homme had the most influence on 'Humbug'. And I can't say a bad word about that album. It's not for everybody but I think it's one which divided fans, making the love for the band stronger or eradicating it, really. He's been on stage with them a few times, too.

I've given "I wanna know" a few listens and its def growing on me. Hopefully their set at Glasto will be broadcast this weekend, will give it a watch. If their album is decent, I'd def go see them again.

I can't wait for the new album to see just where they're going. The b-sides from the previous record all had a 'rock 'n' roll' tinge to them. I admit they never really grabbed me but 'Do I Wanna Know?' sounds really good and 'Mad Sounds' is beautiful, so I have high hopes regardless!
