1. How often are you at shows?
It depends on which bands/artists are around. Some weeks, it can be 2 or 3 shows a week, sometimes I don't have any concert for weeks. But when it happens, I really look for something because I need it! For example this week I saw 2 concerts 2 nights in a row. Nothing planned for the moment for next week but it can change.
2.What will get you to part money for a ticket (curiousity/something new, deeply-loved bands, ostentation, social occasions)?
First of all, never ostentation! I breathe music so I'll never go to a concert because it's "the place to be"
I buy tickets for bands I love and I'm fan of, usually it costs more than 50 euro...
I love to discover new bands, so curiosity, definitely! I listen to the radio, I read magazines and I have friends who love music too and who always recommand me to see one band or another.
I also have opportunities to see some shows for free by working for venues. Sometimes it allows me to discover something new for free...and sometimes it makes me save money to see a band I really love, so it's a good deal!
Social occasions too. Most of the time it's friends who are going to a show and ask me if I want to come. Even if I don't know the band, I go because it's a nice evening with friends.
3.Do you always honestly enjoy it? Does having a show on the horizon sustain you?
Not always of course, I would be lying. Sometimes it's because it's boring. For example when it's not my favourite music's style (rock by all means!)
And sometimes, I don't enjoy the show because I'm tired. When you go out during the week, after a day at work and you have to stay up for 2 hours or more...it's just too much. Mostly when you repeat it several times a week. But I never leave a show before the end. I think it only happened once, I was really tired, I didn't paid for it and Heather Nova bored me to death.
4.Would you like to see more? What stops you?
No because I think that an average of 4 to 6 concerts a month is already pretty awesome!
The distance, the fatigue, the money and days off can stop me.
But with the distance, come the transportation and hotel costs, so that's money too. And holidays of course. When you have to travel to see your favourite band in another country (not always on the weekend!) you have to take 1 or 2 days off.
5. What do you get out of seeing music live that you don't from listening to the album? It's pretty obvious! You can like a band on stage but not on albums and the other way around. And apart from that, when you're in an audience, with a crowd clapping and raising hands, singing, jumping...it's not the same experience as listening to an album in your living room. Sometimes it's better and sometimes it's worse
6.Do you get sick of people asking you if you have "any concerts coming up" and then never having heard of the bands you are going to see?
Friends and colleagues know that I'm a concert addict so I'm always glad to share my plans and my reviews! Most of the time they know the bands. When they don't but are interested to know and discover, I share an album or a YT link. It's the greatness of music, when you can share your passion...
And I'm not interested by people who don't like music or are not interested by it.
