Default Avenged Sevenfold - Any good?

Just asking as they're Maiden's support for Twickenham.

I don't like them that much. Check out their myspace - there are some of their songs on it: http://www.myspace.com/avengedsevenfold

They're pretty good. I hate most of their old stuff (lots of screaming, not very melodic), but their frontman had some vocal problems and can't scream anymore, so their new stuff's more hard rock than metal and is quite good.

Well.... 10 seconds into the first song (Critical Acclaim) and it seems to be a metaaaaal version of Cameo's 'Word Up'.....

Can't see me loving them (i think at 29 I'm just too old to really get into numetal), but decent enough for a support...

They've got some good songs. Gunslinger and Seize The Day are awesome.

A friend of mind recommended them to me about 2 years ago, as he knew I liked old hard rock in general and said they were basicalled the modern day equivalent. I've never really given them ago, but what I've heard is ok, not great. The only song out of what I've heard that I like is Seize The Day. Some say it's a cross between BJ's Always and GnR's Don't Cry, but I don't really see it.

i like Avenged Sevenfold, I've seen them live twice now and it's a great show IMO ... the first time supporting Guns N' Roses in 2006 would have been awesome if not for the atrocious mixing (I can tell you the drumming was good, that's about it), and I saw a headlining show of theirs just last Thursday, which again would have been awesome if it had been longer (1 hour 15 minutes, with 4 albums to draw from?!)

It does actually make sense for them to be supporting Maiden, you can tell that they are a heavy influence on their twin guitar style. I'd sum up Avenged Sevenfold as sounding like a modern day equivalent of what a cross between GnR and Maiden would sound like. Their first two albums were indeed a lot more screamy, but there's still a lot of melody, and amazingly inventive instrumental arrangements

As well as Seize The Day, good songs to check out are Bat Country, Beast And The Harlot (has one of the most stupidly catchy choruses EVER), Unholy Confessions (more screamy but still great), and Almost Easy

Yah, A7x DEFINITELY aren't nu-metal

Although, Korn are still around, and they were one of the earliest nu-metal bands ... so it's apparently not dead yet
