Magic has been Radio 2's album of the week, and I am loving every track I've heard so far. Usually new Bruce music has to grow on me and take some listens but these tracks are instantly accessible! Can't wait for Monday.

JUNGLELAND

The rangers had a homecoming in Harlem late last night
And the Magic Rat drove his sleek machine over the Jersey state line
Barefoot girl sitting on the hood of a Dodge
Drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain
The Rat pulls into town rolls up his pants
Together they take a stab at romance and disappear down Flamingo Lane

Well the Maximum Lawman run down Flamingo chasing the Rat and the barefoot girl
And the kids round here look just like shadows always quiet, holding hands
From the churches to the jails tonight all is silence in the world
As we take our stand down in Jungleland

The midnight gang's assembled and picked a rendezvous for the night
They'll meet 'neath that giant Exxon sign that brings this fair city light
Man there's an opera out on the Turnpike
There's a ballet being fought out in the alley
Until the local cops, Cherry Tops, rips this holy night
The street's alive as secret debts are paid
Contacts made, they vanished unseen
Kids flash guitars just like switch-blades hustling for the record machine
The hungry and the hunted explode into rock'n'roll bands
That face off against each other out in the street down in Jungleland

In the parking lot the visionaries dress in the latest rage
Inside the backstreet girls are dancing to the records that the D.J. plays
Lonely-hearted lovers struggle in dark corners
Desperate as the night moves on, just a look and a whisper, and they're gone

Beneath the city two hearts beat
Soul engines running through a night so tender in a bedroom locked
In whispers of soft refusal and then surrender in the tunnels uptown
The Rat's own dream guns him down as shots echo down them hallways in the night
No one watches when the ambulance pulls away
Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light

Outside the street's on fire in a real death waltz
Between flesh and what's fantasy and the poets down here
Don't write nothing at all, they just stand back and let it all be
And in the quick of the night they reach for their moment
And try to make an honest stand but they wind up wounded, not even dead
Tonight in Jungleland

(PURE 100% JERSEY!!!)
My all time favorite Bruce song..
I really, really hope it slides into the "rotating epic" slot at the Garden (if they're still doing that)
And I'd throw myself in front of a bus for Rosalita...but the odds of that are slim I think..

LOL, well it looks like Kathleen might have won...I'm not happy about this LOL

If Bruce announces a show closer to me than London, I will think about getting a ticket. Are his shows all seating or standing as well?

Nebraska is next on my hit-list btw

I'm sure it hurt a bit to confess to Kathleen but at least you did that.

I'm sure the summer-tour next year will bring a show closer to you. ESB tours are GA, Bruce solo-tour in 2005 was all seated. Quite a different experience but ooh so good.

Nebraska is very good but The River is my all time favourite after BTR, maybe because it was my first Bruce album and show.

Asok is correct Kev - The River is a superior (double) album. Again - the sound isn't great on the original but the songs - oh yeah. The Live from New York City show contains many songs from the River BTW.

Nebraska is a mixed bag for someone who is still not sure he is a Bruce fan. It is only acoustic - Bruce and his guitar (no E St Band) and it is very bleak and depressing. That said - it is right up there with my favorite Bruce albums.

Personally - I think the next experiment for you would be Live 1975 - 1985. It's a 3 CD set and it simply kicks ass. As a bonus - most (not all) of the songs from Nebraska are played with the E Street Band on this collection so it's a great introduction with the Nebraska songs sounding much more upbeat than on the original.

Check it out here - with the reviews and song samples. If you ask nicely - I might even send you a track or two.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - Live:... Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band - Live:...
In the US - the shows are seated with the floor being the GA tickets so you can go either way. Do NOT think that you will get to the front of a Bruce show though. The rabid fans who have been around for 35 years will show up days ahead of time and even bribe the cops to keep a front row place.

Sorry should have been clearer, there's seats at the European shows too with GA on the floor, and yeah the Live box kicks ass.

Here's the review of Magic from Entertainment Weekly who give it an "A". And it's just not a proper review from them if they don't have a dig at Bon Jovi.
