BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!

Opening night of the Wrecking Ball tour is tonight here in Atlanta. Fingers crossed that I'm lucky enough in the wristband lottery to get in the pit!

I'm watching the MSG 2000 show on VH1 Classic right now. God damn, Clarence was awesome.

Have fun at the show, Terri.

American Skin wasn't played. It was actually American Land.

Fixed.
How was it Terri? Badlands -> Death To My Hometown -> My City of Ruins seems like a killer 3-pack.

The show only ended a couple of hours ago, so this is still pretty much spur of moment reaction. I enjoyed the show a lot, but I didn't come out of it absolutely euphoric like I usually do from a Bruce show. The WB songs went over fairly well, but they just don't feel like E Street Band music to me. There were so many Gaelic-influenced songs in the setlist that the rock & roll kind of got lost. (Considering how much of that type of music is on WB, American Land really needs to be dropped.) Charlie was constantly playing his accordion, and Soozie seemed to play a bigger role than either Nils or Steve. You know me - I want to hear guitar solos! By the time you add in the songs that have a gospel/revival basis, the whole show ends up with a bit of an odd feel. Definitely not like the WOAD shows. I loved the horns, though. They're a glorious addition. In spite of the fact that there are two saxophonists, Jake Clemons has the bulk of the big solos. Ed Mannion seems to be in a supporting role. No Bruce show is actually short, but this felt short. IMO, it needed one of the big epics. Maybe it didn't have one because this was the first show of the tour. Time will tell.

BTW, the gods were not with me when it came to pit lottery. I had wristband number 742, and they pulled 767. They gave out over 1000 wristbands and only let 350 into the pit. And I missed it by 25.

A random thought - Jack of All Trades is a terrific song (even if the guys in front of me had to have a conversation through it), but LOHAD is still the best song on WB. It was magnificent.

I dont know what you are doing at a BS-concert if you are talking through a song like JOAT (or talk through any song at all) which is in my opinion the most meaningful song on WB. LOHAD will probably still work best live but then again, that song has been played live a lot over the years so it has some polish. When I see the setlist my first thought was that you miss out on that specific Bruce-spark that you get and see normally.

They are just warming up, I'm sure

I salute you,
TS
