Well, I'm resurrecting this thread to say that I take back what I said about the "Yeah!" earlier. I was completely underwhelmed by the covers album idea since it's new material that I'm really wanting. When the album was first released I pretty much ignored it. But I still went to the official site to keep tabs on what was going on. I caught the performance on VH1 Rock Honors and thought 20th Century Boy was pretty good! Then there was the Rock On video appearing on the OS. That got me listening to the song samples for the album.

Well, I finally went and bought the album last weekend. I gotta say that this really is a surprisingly satisfactory album in the wake of the dissapointment with X. I really wasn't expecting to be getting back into the band at this point.

I guess I really just had to hear it to really get it. The way the songs as a whole come together in a way that spotlights the fact that these are the songs that Def Leppard is made of. You hear how their own material was born out of the music they love.

So I've been getting alot of mileage out of the album the past several days. I now regard the album as the perfect way to put X behind us by putting a more positive experience in it's place to follow up with a brand new studio album. I am actually anticipating a new album more-so now than I would have before since my expectations were low.

Anyway, if you are a Lep fan that has been ignoring this whole period....don't. I do believe we are seeing the future unfold favorably.

After hearing "Waterloo Sunset", I thought this album would be amazing. But I don't really like it much at all.

Why don't you like it, specifically? The choice of songs? Waterloo Sunset is one of the more mellow choices on the album.

Well, choice of song wasn't a big issue for me, because I really didn't know many of the songs previously. It was basically like getting a new studio album for me. I can respect the creative twists they took with this album, but I am a very big fan of the power hook and chorus that Def Leppard is famous for. I feel it's because I am a big fan of the Mutt Lange style of songwriting. There wasn't a lot on this album that really grabbed my attention.

"Waterloo Sunset" was just a masterpiece to me, because they completely reworked it in their style, which I enjoyed. The song itself is such a hook. I didn't know this song until I had heard it done by them, but then I looked up the original. Although it was good, I really like what Def Leppard brought to it.

Anyways, on a sidenote, my favourite Def Leppard songs are "Paper Sun" and "White Lightning". Do you know those ones too? Amazing. I think the guitar riffs are great.

I have both the Best Buy version and the Walmart Bonus CD. I suggest any DL fan pick up the Bonus CD. Out of 5 songs, 4 are excellent (American Girl, Dear Friend, Search and Destroy, and Space Oddity).

Both Target and Bestbuy bonus tracks (When I'm Dead and Gone, Winter Song respectively) are great.

Now the album itself, there are some good tracks (Golden Age of RnR, Waterloo Sunset, No Matter What, 20th Century Boy, Hellraiser and Stay With Me). There are some REAL TURDS like Rock On (totally gay) and Hanging on The Telephone. The rest are average.

Hanging On The Telephone is one of my fave tracks on the album, along with Hellraiser and 20th Century Boy. I like Rock On aswell, but for me it just ends too quickly and feels incomplete.

I, like alot of people here, wasn't expecting much from this album, but I was totally blown away by it. They're working on a new album also, due for early next year hopefully.

I really liked it when I bought it the day it came out and listened to it for 2 weeks straight, it hasn't found it's way into my cd player for a while now, I guess I just got tired of it, and don't find enough replay value with it.
It still is a hell of a lot better than what I expected from it.
