A filler track? I'm not sure how you can justify the title track as being filler

They needed one more track for the album, and cooked it up quickly around a riff they had while in the studio.

And then named the album after it?

I don't know. maybe they ended up liking it that much. or maybe the album title was already decided and they didn't have proper title for the song and picked it up. OR maybe them saying it was meant to be a filler was just a joke. I know I have the magazine with the interview in which they talked about making of TFC album somewhere around, just can't seem to find it, so I can't post more detailed things about it.

EUROPE: NEW ALBUM START FROM THE DARK

Reunited Swedish hard rockers EUROPE have finalized the track listing for their much-anticipated new studio album, "Start From the Dark", due in Europe on September 27 through Epic Records. The group's first collection of new material since 1991's "Prisoners In Paradise" was produced by Kevin Elson (who had previously worked with EUROPE on their multi-platinum 1986 release, "Final Countdown") and is said to feature a "heavier" direction, in the vein of the group's earlier albums. Here´s the tracklist:

Got to Have Faith / Start from the Dark / Flames / Hero / Wake Up Call / Reason / Song #12 / Run With You / Sucker / Spirit of the Underdog / America / Settle for Love

Source: www.melodicjourney.com

I just heard the whole album and I have to say it is heavier. Much heavier guitars on almost every song compared to their 3 previous albums. I just hoped that keyboards would have had bigger part on this one. Favourites so far are the title track, Flames, Hero, Sucker & Spirit Of The Underdog. All in all pretty good (come back) album but it lacks the hits such as TFC, Superstitious or Open Your Heart. IMO.

now I'm looking for someone to join me in Tilburg, I don't feel like driving down there on my own! Why is it that none of my friends want to go to anything heavier than Bryan Adams? :P
