Default Under the Influence

I was listening to the obviously "stimulated" Fleetwood Mac yesterday, when it struck me to ask which (other) music really sounds like it was recorded under the influence of drugs? What, musically, gives it away?

I dunno what it is but I always get the impression that Scott McKenzie was baked out of his skull when he recorded san francisco (wear flowers in your hair)

A guy I know is convinced Waters was constantly out of it on coke when he wrote and recorded the wall. "you can actually hear the paranoia" as he put it.

It's a remarkably accurate depiction of being trapped by depression and anxiety. But, you sadly don't need coke to end up there....

The Wall doesn't sound under the influence to me, just a man pouring out his emotions and biography into one of the greatest albums in existance.

And with that, I might listen to it now, it's been a while since I'd listened to that old friend.

VEEEEEERA! VEEEEEEEERA! Do you remember how she said we would meet again? Some sunny day...

The Faces' entire discography sounds like they were pissed out of their minds when they recorded it all. In a good way.

Psychedelic Rock records from the mid to late 60s were made under the influence, pretty much goes without saying.

The Doors were the first that came to my mind, too.

Aerosmith - Draw the line album might be another example...

Jefferson Airplane - Especially *Surrealistic Pillow*

Mamas and Papas - The Monterey Pop Festival. Stoned out of their minds by their own admission in subsequent books.

The Moody Blues - In Search of the Lost Chord (and I love this album to this day)
