Default Bret Michaels Has Onstage Medical Crisis

Blabbermouth.net: Pete Evick, who plays guitar for ex-POISON singer Bret Michaels'...has released the following statement:
Quote:
"Thursday, May 29 in Manchester, New Hampshire, three songs into (the) set, Bret had me sing a song as he rushed off stage. In the nine years I've stood next to him, I've never seen a look like the one on his face as if I was a complete stranger.

"One of the crew returned instantly to notify me that Bret's blood sugar was extremely low. He returned to the stage only to announce that he could not continue.

"As you all know, (Bret) is a health fanatic and fiercely monitors his blood sugar. He basically had to be dragged off the stage in his sickest of conditions.

"When I rushed to the bus, he could barely speak, but begged me to apologize to the fans and seemed only concerned for them.

"As of now, he is with paramedics being evaluated. We will keep you posted throughout the evening."

In recent years, Michaels, who has known about his type 1 diabetes since he was six years old, has undergone an emergency appendectomy, heart surgery and suffered brain hemorrhaging...

In a 2010 interview with Diabetes Forecast magazine, Michaels discussed...the everyday challenges of living with diabetes and explained how he has taken control of his health after years of a rock-and-roll lifestyle...

Bret also spoke about how his recent health challenges have changed the way he tours. "I absolutely have an itinerary of where the really good hospitals are, just in case I have another hemorrhage or heart problems," he said.

"I am really focused on what to do if something happens to us, not just me, but my band and my crew. But the shows I am playing are as fun and as wild and as upbeat as ever. Everything else is life as usual, on the road."

Considering the stroke he had not long time ago, he's lucky that only was a low sugar thing.

From the official Bret Michaels Web site:
Quote:
...Bret Michaels was physically forced to leave the stage last night at the Palace Theater in Manchester, New Hampshire due to complications involving insulin shock & severe low blood sugar...

Michaels attempted to return to the stage to finish the show however it was clear to the band, crew, and audience that he would not be able to continue, as he walked off the stage and became violently ill...

Complications with his...ability to balance his blood sugar levels arose. Michaels was rushed by ambulance to CMC (Catholic Medical Center), and monitored through the evening... Doctors... determined... other conditions includ(ing) exhaustion, dehydration, fever and the noro flu virus...

Michaels will not be able to perform this evening in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania as doctors have ordered him to let the flu virus run its course and let his blood sugar re-balance and remain consistent...

Type 1 diabetes complicates health issues such as the nora flu virus and must be monitored and taken very seriously.
Diabetics who don't get enough sleep are begging for trouble -- especially if they also don't eat on a regular schedule.

Other rockers with diabetes:
- Brad Wilk - (Rage Against the Machine; Audioslave)
- David Crosby and Neil Young (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young)
- Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac)
- Tommy Lee (Motley Crue)
- Lemmy Kilminster (Motorhead)

There must be something going around, LOL!

Quote:
Country singer Luke Bryan suffered some minor injuries after he fell off the stage during a concert in Charlotte, North Carolina, on (May 29)...

But Bryan kept a licking and went on singing. As the band vamped to cover up the mishap, he climbed back on stage.

"Check this out: The last time I was in North Carolina I busted my ass on stage!" Bryan, 37, told the crowd as he recovered, referring to a February spill he took during a concert in Greensboro...

Bryan also tweeted about the incident for worried fans. "I'm good," he wrote. "Few stitches."
Quote:
For Luke Bryan, the show must go on, even if he happens to fall down while on stage. The singer was... was walking on a catwalk from one stage to another...in Greensboro, N.C. on (Feb. 17) as part of his That’s My Kind of Night tour when he took a nasty spill...

Thankfully, the ‘Drink a Beer’ singer wasn’t injured. Ever the performer, Bryan made a big show of the fall, before running back down the catwalk for his Red Solo cup, which he took a big swig from and then threw into the excited crowd...

UPDATE: 'I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,' rocker Bret Michaels says of hurricane destruction
Bret Michaels, his band and his crew rolled into town and rolled up their sleeves Monday afternoon.

The rocker toured parts of town that were devastated by tornadoes last week.

At times choking back tears, Michaels said he he’d had no idea of the scope of the damage.

“It’s one thing to see it on TV, but when you actually get out here, it’s completely different. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” said Michaels, who is scheduled to perform tonight at the Rosebud Casino in Valentine, Nebraska...
Good on ya, Bret -- welcome back to the saddle!

11/11 UPDATE: Michaels Checks Into to Six Different Hospitals Between Gigs, Undergoes Kidney Surgery
Quote:
Poison frontman Bret Michaels...who suffers from diabetes, has been admitted to six hospitals over the last two weeks...After forcing himself to perform through extreme pain for numerous nights, (he) finally hit a wall...

In a new post written by Bret Michaels’ guitarist Pete Evick:
Many of you who have seen (Bret) in person over the course of the past few weeks have commented on how he didn't look quite like himself and unfortunately you guys were right...(T)his past week Bret had to have surgery on his kidneys...

He spent the evening in the hospital and they had to put two stents in his body. He managed to bust out of the hospital and get to Memphis just minutes before our scheduled performance time to a huge crowd...on Halloween night...I...asked him not to do this. But no, Bret insisted that the fans come first even though he could barely even say that to me because he was hurting so much...

(T)he show went off flawlessly...He wasn't jumping up in the air like usual, but he still did what I guarantee nobody in half the pain he was could have done. Before I could even see if he was okay, his bus pulled out and he was off again to another hospital. Certain that the next show...wouldn't happen...I prepared to make the calls and post the info needed...I was again informed he was on his way...This time I actually begged him not to do this...(The) argument went on for an hour...

Jumping around with two stents was a bad idea. I can't explain the amount of blood or where it came from, but it was horrifying on his bus after the show. Bret looked at me and said, "Just head to Champaign, we have to make Thursday's show up." Bret was again taken to a hospital and this time given medication that would keep him down. The doctors basically refused to release him...

He's still not 100 percent, but there are no plans to postpone or reschedule any more shows this year...We will see you guys this weekend in Florida...
Well, after all, November IS American Diabetes Awareness Month.

I guess Bret felt that his most recent medical adventures made it necessary for him to release this personal message:
I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank everyone for their concern, prayers and well wishes, it meant the world to me...I want you all to know I have no death wish, rather quite the opposite, as I love life and am grateful for every second I get and every second chance I’ve had...

(S)ome of you comment(ed) that I looked very sick...but I felt I could play through it. I...thought I was well enough after the first operation and stent, however I got a blood clot as well as an infection which complicated the matter...

(M)y healing process is a little slower than a non-diabetic's, but I am not a lay around self-pity type of guy... (T)he second I can be out of the hospital and moving, I go -- I admit, sometimes too soon...At times my passion to play music is my blessing and my curse, however I have only been sick twice this year...I will continue to give all I can for as long as I can, and although I am still not 100% I feel good enough to continue performing.

P.S. Again, I don't have a death wish. I just love playing music; it makes me feel good.

I don't think Bret's "passion" is for death, but for repeating the same thing and expecting a different result. Here's hoping that he really has gotten the message that he needs to take extra time for healing, because his next "second chance" could be his LAST one!
