It's all about Sony feeling that they're betting on a sure thing -- the deal sounds structured so that they will break even at the
very worst. If you could go to a casino with a guarantee that you'd either win or break even, you would take along every last cent that you could get your hands on, LOL!
And Friedman is right: it certainly doesn't hurt that Sony doesn't have to shell out extra for autotuning, dancers, theatrical staging, outside songwriters and composers, costumes, rehab/therapy, or even a recording studio (Bruce has his own). Radio/video/streaming support is icing on the cake because he's not dependent on airplay. And after more than thirty years, Bruce can still charge top dollar for filling major venues whether he's accompanied by his E Street Band, one guitar, or whoever the musician's union decides to send over!
