Everyone thinks it has got something to do with his ego, which is not true. Slash and Duff had different opinions about which musical direction to take with GnR then Axl. Slash and Duff wanted to make the sort of music like on Appetite, but Axl wanted to move on.

I am with Seb on this. Axl is really misunderstood. He doesn't have any more of an ego than any other rock star. Creatively, he wanted new things. You can't keep making the same album over and over again.
