They sucked long before this article was written, but to completely copyprotect a disc so that it will only play on a regular CD player is a bit lame. I'm sure not all their fans are crooks. I know it's only so record companies don't lose out on album sales but come on.

Though my mum has that album and she plays it in her car all the time and plays fine.

Thankfully I've never bought a CD that didn't allow me to rip to MP3 or play on a DVD player on my surround sound system.

I wonder how Coldplay feels about their fans getting all these rules set down for them by the music label? I wonder if most fans who read these rules will be wise enough to blame corporate, or whether they'll just decide to dig up a band whose label treats them like customers, not crooks?
1-It seems the band is not to blame for this.
2-I didn't get this list of rules in my copy.
3-My copy plays in all the players I have, from PC to home, from DVD to car.

Wether you like their music or not is another matter.

It's not that it won't play, but they say you CAN NOT play it in anything else or they can sue you. If you use it in a car stereo, you're breaking the agreement. And you can't return the CD, because of the agreement. The tough part is that you only get to see the agreement once you've bought the CD and opened it.

Some people only have 1 system for music and video in their house. A surround sound system will play both music and video and usually plays cds in the DVD player. According to this agreement - you are not allowed to play this cd on a DVD player. That's just wrong.
I think it's going WAY to far to tell me where I can and cannot play a cd that I just paid for. And no cds in the car - that's sick.

Right Kathleen.... but it's not Coldplay's fault, I mean it's not them who actually made the cds (I guess)

i dont see why the band are automatically to blame for this....and they probably arent the first anyway.

I really cant imagine Chris Martin having much input, if any, into the legalities of the use of his albums.

For people that are affected by this, you've got grounds for a refund of the cd anyway.

If the artists want, they can affect the copy protections on their CDs.

I wouldn't say this is the reason Coldplay sucks. They do suck, but it has more to do with their crap music than their selfishness.
