Whoa! Spunky I'm surprised you aren't already on the ball. Madonna has always sang live. The lip synced performances are at a minimum and only when neccessary, such as in Justify My Love up until the build up in the end (you have to know the live version from 1993.)

She works extremely hard at all times in her shows and proves why she is who she is. She doesn't just coast on her name.

Moving along a bit....knowing you based on your posts that reflect your tastes...I bet you if you went out and watched Drowned World Tour you would be blown away. It's from 2001 in Detroit. If you haven't seen it already...just trust me on it...I've shown the most blue collar of guys this show..and their perception of her changed. One of them now wants to buy the DVD for himself. She really takes you on a trip in a rocking theatrical way. It's not the pop fluff you might expect.

As for the original post...yes I saw her at the Forum in LA in May at the start of the tour. The first act is pretty good and has some trippy moments in it. Mind you, I had crappy seats near the back with crappy sound and I was surrounded by people who seemed to be there out of curiousity and weren't really paying attention to the show. I also had constant interuptions so for the most part...I remember being annoyed to sh** for most of the show. Basically..I'm looking forward to the DVD where I can experience it again with complete focus and crystal clear sound.

I definitely agree with that - whether or not she has any other talents besides dancing and re-inventing herself is questionable though.

hmmm, you are still talking about madonna right?

a while ago, I got her 'music' album which I promptly drove down to the used cd shop as I couldn't bear to listen to it more than once.

seriously though, I am fairly certain she puts on a good show, but I just don't like her music.

Madonna is another artist that I just do not get.

She doesn't "reinvent" herself, she just dresses in different tarty clothes and gets another producer....

I read someones point the other day that people think shes a great role model to women and feminism etc... and he was like all she does is flaunt herself, she's been doign it since the early 80s and still does it today just to a much lesser extent, thats not somethign to commend.

Yes, I'm talking about Madonna. If anything, she has only gotten much more artistic since the 80s and early 90s. I completely understand regarding Music......but you must keep in mind those songs become something else in the live show. Just try my recommendation and watch that show on DVD. Put it in...Crank it up....smoke a bowl. You'll thank me. All of the songs that appeared on Music are much better in the show. I don't care for the album if that helps and never listen to it..but I LOVE the songs from that album within the live show.

I'm not one of those that thinks she can do no wrong. I thought she seriously screwed up with that whole Britney association and the MTV Awards B.S. last year. That was some poor marketing calculation as Britney is NOT one to associate with and the whole thing was just cheap and crass, recalling the early 90s Erotica period...where she otherwise should command more class that she has demonstrated since. What's really stupid is Christina Aguilera was part of it..but no one really mentions it. SHE is the one with the talent. Britney, a total record company product, needs to go away.

But Madonna pretty much does stay consistently excellent when it comes to her live show. Drowned World is devoid of any of the mis-steps she has made in the media otherwise. In fact it's often overlooked because people are quick to write it off due to the set list not being stuffed with hits. Initially I felt it was going to suck....but when you see it..you'll get it unless you weren't paying attention or have your head up your a**. We all complain about the tired songs in Bon Jovi's setlist needing to be put to pasture. Well Madonna did exactly that and focused on the recent material and actually made every song better than the original studio version.

ah yeah - she does re-invent herself. it's not just the clothes she changes, it's her attitude her everything.

as far as role model - I do think in some way she was back when she started - whether or not she flaunts herself has nothing to do with it. For the first time (it seemed) you had a girl that was in tune with her body and sexuality - something most women are not.

And she used her sexuality to sleep her way to the top. LOL I can't help it. I always think of her as this old whor* who used her womanly wiles to get what she needed to become a star, which I think is all well and good for her. Now her fake English accent and superior attitude drives me crazy. Plus, her last album was a desperate attempt to regain attention, instead of using her talent to create something that is actually good.
