I think the live tracks are all from Count Basie Theatre '93.

Surely that's an EP rather than a single? Must run for ages. Brilliant tracklisting.

Yeah, that's the combination of both of the DC Single-CDs.
I think the 2-CD box of this must be really rare by now.

Saw it on Ebay a few times, but never managed to get one.

Did you get all this stuff from Ebay, too?

"Japanese promo single" apparently.

Book Off in Japan. Heaps of cool second hand stuff there in pretty good nick.

Personally, I love the music in Memphis, but I always loved musicals. No, it isn't "real" rock & roll. It's rock & roll written for musical theater. (Some critics seem to have an issue with that. But then, some critics seem to have an issue with everything.) The numbers are catchy and stick in your head. They build to a big, old-fashioned finale number. Jovi fans have heard David sing the title track a number of times, and I wondered if I'd automatically dislike anyone else's version. Not so. Chad Kimball who plays Huey does a tremendous job with the song. Montego Glover who plays Felicia has a magnificent voice and has some real chances to shine. As far as I'm concerned, her performance of the song Colored Woman was worth the price of admission the night I saw the show.

If you're interested in the music, you can hear clips of a few of the songs on the Memphis website -
http://www.memphisthemusical.com/music.html

The show also has a YouTube channel -
http://www.youtube.com/user/MemphisTheMusical

I think this video which is an interview with Joe DePietro (book & lyrics) and David (music & lyrics) sitting at a piano and talking (and in David's case, singing) about the creative process is fascinating -
http://www.broadway.com/videos/show/...-joe-dipietro/

Sorry to go on and on, but I really enjoyed this show. Yes, I think the story could be stronger. It's all wrapped up in a nice, neat package a little to easily . . . but then, this IS musical theater! The music, the dancing, the costumes and set are fabulous, and we had a great time. When I saw the show, it was still in previews, and Kathleen tells me it was even better when they saw it again in December.
