You know - I feel the same way about it. I really loved that album when it came out and I didn't want a "redone" version. I just hadn't thought of it in the way you did - but you're right.

You almost can't do anything wrong with an original album like that as the basis for an acoustic rework.

I have a live show taped off TV where she used electric guitars quite a lot.

It certainly feels different - and IMO Alanis acoustic is Alanis at her best.

Oh, and she seems to imply that the idea for the rehash was suggested to her and she just liked it and did it. I don't think she's short of material, and anyway it's only a year since she had a new album out.

an album that sucked.

Of course she uses 'some' electric guitar. But a plugged and unplugged version of any of her songs just isn't THAT much different. That's all.

Of course the album is still great - Jagged Little Pill is a masterpiece and is one of those albums that will go down in history. I love Alanis - I'd never say she isn't any good or that particular album isn't any good. I just don't see the big deal rehashing a masterpiece. It makes no sense to me. Hmm, and IF you want to compare the acoustic version to the original - it sucks - the anger is gone - the emotions have passed - it does not hold up.

The whole thing confirmed my belief that artists must create from their experiences/hardship/lifestyle/pain and if they do, there might be just a jewel in there along the way. However, one can never simply 'create' art - it must come out of the pit of ones stomach. They can teach you art in school, there are classes on painting/writing/sculpture, but it only teaches the mechanics, never the true art of it. One cannot subscribe to a formula and treat songwriting, painting, writing, etc. as a craft - if one does, you get crap. Crap as a relative term. We've got a lot of that craft type music out there and a lot of once-great songwriters, end up washed out desperately trying to recreate a certain formula. (Alanis does not do that by the way - 3 Doors Down do )

Alanis will never be able to write another album that would be as profound as Jagged Little Pill and any version of the original, will never be as good as the original.

Oh, I loved it! It made me rediscover Alanis and like her music even more.

I understand what you mean but that's the whole TLFR debate all over again. The new songs are not meant to replace the originals at all - more like a tribute to them, to show they still apply. The original ones will be the remembered ones.

Today I've been listening to the album a couple of times and I'm really thrilled about it
