If you are not much of a Springsteen fan - or are not that familiar with his music - go for The River. Though I tell everyone that his live albums sound much better than the older albums - and they contain most of the same tracks.

Live 1975 to 1985 is a 3 CD set and
Live in New York City is a 2 CD set

Both are superior soundwise.
