K a few more:

longview - mercury.

great album from venerable indie underachievers (not that it's a bad thing. keeps the gigs low key and intimate) its maybe abit slow in places but they've got some great rocking tunes as well and I just really like the sound they create.

explosions in the sky - the world is not a cold dead place

you really need the full 45 minutes to listen to this all in the one go or it doesn't really work. echo-ey instrumental band with a cracking sound too. long tunes but they mesh seamlessly into one another and through a decent pair of cans the production and mixing is divine.

david bowie - hunky dory

I think this JUST pips stardust as my favourite bowie album though if I wasn't going to play fair I'd lump this, ziggy and alladin sane all in the one selection

CMonFeet, I listened to Farmhouse again today after seeing Phish's cracking version of Loving Cup from Jimmy Fallon. Such a good album. What other albums of theirs are particularly good?

Ooh, and did anyone take Jim's advice and give Rain Dogs a spin?

Really glad you like it!

Billy Breathes - Lovely, floaty/dreamy classic rock for the most part, and Rift - Seriously dense record - will take a few listens before it really clicks, but just so much going on in every track. There's barely a track that isn't outstanding on those two albums.

Obviously to really know the band you need to know their live stuff (this does require a tolerance for extended impovisation), of which there's 25 years* easily accessible.

Couple of great Rift tunes

The Horse > Silent in the Morning

Maze

Live shows -

*You can watch songs grow and change, really be alive. It's a great thing.

I got two more to recommend:

The Last Vegas - Whatever gets you off, a good sleazy rock album.

EndeverafteR - Kiss Or Kill. IMO the best and most complete rock album in the last decade.
Great rocking tune, Gotta get out:

Great Ballad, Long Way Home:

You know "Back on the Train" by now. Ignore the dicks punching baloons around and see where they take it live... (pretty much picked at random, am only a minute in myself. There are some phenomenal shows out there, but I ain't gonna deny you the fun of exploring for yourself).

You've gotten me all excited now.

I really wish Ben Folds Five had ever written an album that *really* shows what they were capable of. They never quite got it exactly down.
