A few of my favourites, besides bruce/bon jovi which im sure you have

59 sound - gaslight anthem, brilliant young band, love this album, like springsteen with a modern punk edge, im sure most will have heard a few songs. I love this band.
Songs to check out - 59 sound, meet me by the rivers edge and great expectations

Love Ire and Song - Frank Turner, again one of my favourite young artists, went to see him live two weeks ago, amazing. Great mix between punk and accoustic english folk, wonderful album
Songs to check out - Long Live The Queen(one of my favourite songs), Love, Ire and Song, To take you home.

currently listening to the nils acoustic album, pretty good from what i've heard so far, checked out a few songs by the band may grab an album later .

After one listen - I know for sure I would be raving about a few of the songs on here if they had come from say, Fountains of Wayne...

There's something about the ambience/atmosphere of the record that doesn't quite gel with me. Perhaps its a little too close to the Manchester indy I never really liked.

That said, the songwriting is really good and "Tears" (it's the Dexy's horns at the end) and "I Gotta Know!" (a bit Cheap Trick) really stand out.

It won't be the last time I play the album for sure.

Some more, can't be arsed to give any artwork this time.

Tom Waits - Closing Time
Beautiful songs with a jazz influence. This is pre-growling and Waits is more melodic throughout than people may know him for. Ol' 55, the opener, is an amazing song.

Bob Dylan - The Bootleg Series Volume 5: The Rolling Thunder Revue
Maybe this is more of a connisseur's choice, but I think anyone who has a basic knowledge of Bob Dylan can enjoy this live album. Has a very fun atmosphere and Bob's powerful mid-70s voice, as well as a big band who sound great.

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Not alt-country like a lot of people say Wilco are. You can hear a bit of country in there but mostly it's great rock music in various styles, with some really exciting guitar solos in addition to some electronica and excellent ballads. One of the best post-2000 albums.

wtf you mention closing time and talk about the opening track instead of martha? shame on you sir.

but i digress.

explosions in the sky - 1st breath after coma. instrumental guitars with tonnes of delay and no bass which means it's outstanding.

james - pleased to meet you. not one of their well known albums but it's a cracker. brilliant arrangements, great songwriting and well worth a listen.

cmon feet im surprised you said that about grand prix. i definitely dont get a madchester vibe from the album at all. maybe im a bit more disposed to your token sunny glaswegian pop band to differentiate them from the likes of the la'sm cast and whoever else...

Foiled By Blue October....

stand out tracks are Hate Me which is just a pretty good rock tune, Into The Ocean which has a quirky Ben Folds/Eels vibe, but the one that makes the album stand out for me is a ballad called 18th Floor Balcony which is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

I prefer to listen to the Entire album first.

I'm as far as Little on Up and I love it. Simply good music.

If you love that, then you will definitely love (Waterboys) Mike Scott's album Bring Em All In. Oli, you need to listen to this.

It actually is a great album start to finish. It's one you listen to the whole of, always.

The title track is uniquely divine - http://www.drycounty.com/jovitalk/ne...reply&p=982935

Wonderful Disguise is another standout -
Really should listen to more Waterboys.
