Default Butch Walker/ Marvelous 3/ Southgang

Anybody else here heard of the brilliance of Butch Walker? By far my favorite, and the best, pop rock artist working now-a-days.

Some of you might now him as the lead singer of Marvelous 3, but his real brilliance came out when he went solo. He has a way of mixing insanely catchy songs, with really thought provoking lyrics and great instrumentals.

For example here's two songs from his 2004 album Letters, just one of his 6 solo albums.

Lights Out: a fan short rock song with a brilliant chorus

Thank You Note: a haunting piano ballad

So any other Butch Walker fans here? Or if there aren't, you should really give him a try.

Someone on the boards here recommended him to me and I fell in love hard. I agree, everyone needs to check his catalog out. I've yet to dive into his Marvelous 3 era, other than Freak of the Week, but I probably should.

His marvelous 3 stuff is great, more easy going and fun. Its say compared to his solo stuff its closest to 'Left of Self Centered'.

i'm so very glad to know you've checked his stuff out and enjoyed it that much. Left of Self Centered is just a continuation of the Marvelous 3. it could've been a Marvelous 3 album, it's got the same sort of vibe. The Spade is different but very good too. he's so multidimensional. that's one of the things i love about him.

Roxannah was nice enough to make me a list/playlist of her favorite songs. I'm more than willing to do the same.

Glad to see Butch Walker getting some love. It's a shame he hasn't reached the acclaim that he deserves.

So what's everyone favorite album? Right now it's probably a tie between Letters and I Liked it Better when you had no heart, just two all around good albums IMO.

I'm also loving the album Maya that he released as 1969. Really good different album.

i can't say i have one, although i'd have said Left Of Self Centered was my favourite up until a few years ago.

i've rediscovered I Liked It Better... recently and i rank it really high. i also love The Spade, which is quite funny when my initial reaction to it was "oh no, not country!". then little by little it started growing on me and now i listen to it from start to finish and i love everything about it. and it's not even country at all. Letters doesn't do much for me to be honest, bar a few songs.

I first heard of Butch Walker back in 2009 when he co-wrote "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" with Rivers Cuomo for Weezer's Raditude album. It's easily the best track on an otherwise mostly mediocre record, and it turned me onto his stuff.

I've always wanted to ask if you're into him. Really there's so many songs I've wondered if you were into for some reason. Have you heard "Closer to the truth and further from the sky"?
