Default Rock music fans shaved and shamed in Indonesia

...“(R)ock 'n’ roll will never die,” but in Indonesia’s Aceh province, the musical art form’s lifestyle is under serious attack. In this strict Islamic corner of the world’s most-populous Muslim nation, authorities rounded up 65 male and female punk-rock fans after a recent concert for a bit of “reeducation.”

That meant having their mohawks and dreadlocks shaved, their clothes destroyed and their piercings yanked out before they were paraded around like crime suspects...

Default 2017 Update: Indonesian Hijab-Core!

Meet The Indonesian All-Girl Muslim Metal Band, VOICE OF BACEPROT
It's easy to say that Voice of Baceprot don't look like your typical heavy metal band, but it's true. I don't know many other bands composed of Muslim teenage girls from West Java, Indonesia...

The girls formed their band in 2014 when they met in school..."Wearing a hijab should not be a barrier to the group's pursuit of its dream of being heavy metal stars," said Firdda Kurnia, 16, who sings and plays the guitar. "...I feel I am still exploring my creativity, while at the same time, not diminishing my obligations as a Muslim woman..."

The girls have a few originals "on issues like the state of education in Indonesia" but mostly cover classics from System of A Down, Rage Against the Machine, Metallica and Slipknot. ...(T)he trio were invited to play their school's graduation ceremony...
