Exclamation The Eagles?

Let me tell you an interesting little story. When I was younger I vaugely remember my mum listening to Hotel California a lot. I hated it, I thought it was annoying as heck. But, lately this band have been creeping and popping up around me in small ways. Almost like we were just made to be. One of my good friends love them, and she always puts them on on the jukebox at one of our local pubs. She also made me watch on of their Live accoustic DVD's at Christmas time. I remember thinking "hey, this isn't so bad!" But, I had had quite a few Sex On The Beach's and White Russion's, and was fairly rat assed to be fair, so I assumed it was the alcohol talking.

My mama has The Best of The Eagles, and I had to listen to it, just to check it wasn't the alcohol. And it found it's way onto my iPod. And slowly but surely I have came to love this band. Now, I admit they're great! I've only heard this album, but hey, it's a great album.

My top 5:

Desperado - Oh man, I adore this song. The lyrics are so beautiful.
Best Of My Love - Another beauty, just not as beautiful.
I Can't Tell You Why - Awwww. I love it so.
Heartache Tonight. - It's um...good.
Take It To The Limit - Anyone else think it's "If .you. don't. knooowww. me. byyy. noowww" when it first starts??

This isn't really my usual kind of music taste, but hey ho. I knew moving to the country would rub off on me!

Anyone with me here? Please?

The Eagles are a wonderful band, until you listen to their live stuff which, as strange as it sounds to criticise, is exactly the same as on record.

Great musicians, great songwriters, amazing albums, but incredibly mediocre on stage, unfortunately.

Only ever owned the 2003 Complete Greatest Hits. I like all the classics, and also the new song on there, Hole In The World (about 9/11) is great. I've never been pushed to get a studio album but I guess I'll always be a casual fan.

I also have Hell Freezes Over on DVD and like RichieW2001 says, whilst they sound superb live, their stage prescence is boring.

I don't own any of their albums but I like all their big hits that I've heard. Desperado and Best of My Love are my favourites too. Hotel California used to scare the shit out of me when I was little but I like it now.

I haven't watched anything from them live while sober. I'll check it out to see what I think. I've seen quite a few DVD's of theirs in HMV and the likes. They just did their last tour if my friend is correct?

Lee-Ann - Why did the song scare you? lol. I just thought it was miserable, but I like it now too. Atlough, still not one of my very favourites from what I've heard.

I've never considered myself a big fan, but I do like them. Hotel California was always a song that I loved!

I have the Desperado and One Of These Nights albums, both are pretty good. Desperado is a gorgeous song and Lyin' Eyes is another fave... they have a lotta classics really.

I really don't like the Eagles, i think they're really dull. A bit like Clapton.

Please please please do yourselves a favour and check out:
Creedence Clearwater Revival,
The Byrds,
Buffalo Springfield,
The Flying Burrito Bros.,
Jackson Browne,
and Gram Parsons.

All of them are a million miles better than the Eagles.

They might not be as sweet and sickly sounding, or as overly-polished, but they offer a better more real example of California's 'golden era'.
