Finally, somebody else who loves the TOL album as much as me! I have to say, it's been pretty much the only album that I've listened to the past few weeks- although I did seem to feel an immediate affinity to it Some of the lyrics on there just blow me away. Sad, but beautiful nonetheless (or maybe I just get pleasure out of miserable lyrics, haha).

Brilliant Diguise, Two Faces and One Step Up have some real beautiful lyrics.

Tunnel Of Love, although not a lyrical masterpiece, it doesn't need to be. The words are enough to make you feel, a rare skill to have.

And Spare Parts...God...just awesome.

The self-hate in the album is just amazing for lack of a better word. It's like listening to Bruce's diary.

The title track just makes me feel so sad. You can just feel the narrator's pain at how things didn't work out between the two people. What I love about the album in general is that for the most part it's quite simple music-wise- the focus is more on the lyrics/stories, at least in my opinion.

Certainly, just like on Nebraska and Bruce's other solo acoustic albums.

And Tougher Than The Rest, just awesome. I keep trying to learn it on acoustic guitar, and even though the chords are easy enough I can't think of a good strum pattern to go with it.

Well BTR is only my 5th Bruce CD I downloaded...and not legally, even more shameful...everything by Bruce that I didn't have. So now I'm doing the rounds and buying all the CD's, it's weird knowing I love the album before I've bought it.
If you had the album already, you should have waited to save up for the BTR Box Set. It's absolutely worth it.

Gotta agree with you there Bryan, the box set is stunning!
I picked it up for £10 in a second hand music store, what a bargain!

Anyway I came to this thread to tell you all a story!
It was my 18th the other day and a I got a fair bit of money in hmv vouchers and one of the things I bought with them was the Bruce in Barcelona DVD, so Im sat here watching it and it just wasn't doing anything for me! It just didn't seem to capture the magic of seeing Bruce live which we know so well but then I put my city of ruins on and wow! I've always like the song but what a beautiful performance, So I think I'll be giving the whole thing another chance but that song in particular has made my day

Don't worry Brian, I've asked my parents to get me the boxset one for my birthday But I wanted a normal version of it too just so it can sit on my shelf with all my others.

I'm very weird with stuff like that

I love Live in Barcelona, but maybe that's because The Rising is one of my favourite albums.

Dad hates it though. He complains that I play it too loud and asks why I'm listening to some old screaming guy.
