Officially yes, but not the first time we've heard the songs.

I'd agree there's often a risk of a trade off between energy and spirit and "polish", but the logical extension of your argument is that every artist should just release their demos and be done with it, which *does* work in some instances (!), but I'm sure you're familiar with the saying that art is never finished it's just taken away from you, whether that be literature, music or visual art.

Yes, sometimes demos are better than the finished product. I think Bon Jovi demos prove that very well. The stuff that's on the box set is a lot better than the polished turds they put out on albums. They've scrapped great songs and polished pieces of shit for albums.
And I was waiting for an unreleased album from 1978, not a polished, toned down music, "fixed" in 2010. As much as I love Bruces music, he can't touch what he did in the 70s and 80s nowadays. The passion is not there anymore, although he still enjoys what he does.

How many times have you looked back at an old piece of work and seen something in it you wished you could have improved or curse your youthful mistakes?

I don't do that. I appreciate it for what it is. I might do things differently now, but that doesn't meanit would be better. I actually just a few days ago thought about how I could've come up with the compositions I did when I was younger. I had no set ways or inhibitions, I just went for it. Couldn't do ti the same way now even if I wanted. And I would never mess with the stuff I made then. It should stand on it's own.
