Not only my favourite Bruce album but my all time favourite by any artist. The documentary made me appreciate it even more.
The only album that Bruce has ever said that he wished he could re-record was - Darkness. So in 2009 the entire original band (minus Danny of course) went into the Paramount Theater (which is part of the Asbury Park Convention Center) and they played that damn album without an audience - absolutely live - twice. So Bruce finally got to re-record his album - and that recording (part of the box set) is absolutely mesmerizing. Even for me, who grew up with the original phrasing and sound, it's a masterpiece and I'm grateful beyond words that I have it.

It's a gift across the years from Bruce to me.

That sounds amazing. I've given myself the box set for Christmas. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

If a seasoned E Street aficionado raves about it, I know it's going to be something special.

You will say Merry Christmas to yourself and mean it LOL. I have the Blu-Ray version and the sound and video are just incredible. I love the 78 Houston show that was included and it's a great bootleg. But even more I love the new re-recorded Paramount show. The old man and his pals are still out there displaying the kind of passion that grabs you and doesn't let go. He is certainly an inspiration to me.

He inspires me too, I can't really say that about any other musician. It's more than music I suppose, there's something much deeper than 'just tunes' with Bruce.

A friend of mine recently called Bruce a "Douchey rocker" I immediately called him up on it, asking why he thought that. "I just don't get him" he said. I asked had he listened to any of his stuff and he said "er not really, just bits and pieces off the radio"

I was incensed, and began into a speech on how deep Bruce's material runs and how annoyed I was that a fellow music lover had lazily tagged one of my heroes on the basis of a few singles and a misguided take on BITUSA.

I'm compiling a CD for this douchey friend. He'll thank me down the line.

I had to do the same for one of my kids. He loves music, plays in a band etc but he always hated Bruce. Frankly I figured that he would grow out of it. He didn't so I started by playing some of the more obscure tracks for him - ones that you didn't hear on the radio ad nauseum. Then I bought a ticket and dragged him to a show in 2008. THAT was what it took - the live show completely won him over.

I also have a very close black friend who just didn't get that white dude's music LOL. I took him to one of the Rising shows back in 2003 and he was just blown away. A good show is a good show.

And frankly I have taken several people to Bon Jovi live shows who have come away as converts - people who thought they were horrible to begin with. Maybe it's the live music that gets 'em.

Yeah that's what won me over both with Bruce and then with Bon Jovi.

Hey guys, don't post on JT much these days due to disillusionment with the band themselves, but I thought I'd pop into the Bruce thread and see what's up.

Darkness boxset sounds ****ing ace, can't wait to get my paws on it eventually. Gonna watch the documentary on iPlayer tomorrow - listened to the album recently and it's absolutely wanktastic in terms of songwriting. Adam Raised A Cain is the only song on it I don't like, because of the generic arena rock tune (same with Cover Me on BITUSA) but even that has a pretty good lyric. My qualm with the record is that the production is a bit shitty (especially considering Bruce is such a perfectionist and put so much into the recording and songs) but hopefully the re-recording will provide a nice raw alternative.

Any word on new material?

ALSO - anyone heard Townes Van Zandt's version of Racing In the Street? The man had a beautiful, melancholic voice and I highly recommend that recording.

Yeah - it's been awhile - nice to see you here.. For the record the remastered Darkness is a real improvement. And if you read a few (maybe many) posts back I remember saying that the only album that Bruce wanted to re-record was Darkness. He wasn't satisfied with the original. So in 2009 the entire original band (minus Danny of course) went into the Paramount Theater (which is part of the Asbury Park Convention Center) and they played that damn album without an audience - absolutely live - twice. Yes - I'm repeating what I said a while ago in this thread - but damnit - it bears repeating. The entire production is awesome. Maybe Santa will give it to you as a Christmas present

Anyone who doesn't like Bruce has no heart, no soul, no taste and (goes without saying for the girls obviously) no balls, because his songs are so fuckin' rocking.
