A friend of mine recently called Bruce a "Douchey rocker" I immediately called him up on it, asking why he thought that. "I just don't get him" he said. I asked had he listened to any of his stuff and he said "er not really, just bits and pieces off the radio"
I was incensed, and began into a speech on how deep Bruce's material runs and how annoyed I was that a fellow music lover had lazily tagged one of my heroes on the basis of a few singles and a misguided take on BITUSA.
I'm compiling a CD for this douchey friend. He'll thank me down the line.

I had to do the same for one of my kids. He loves music, plays in a band etc but he always hated Bruce. Frankly I figured that he would grow out of it. He didn't so I started by playing some of the more obscure tracks for him - ones that you didn't hear on the radio ad nauseum. Then I bought a ticket and dragged him to a show in 2008. THAT was what it took - the live show completely won him over.
I also have a very close black friend who just didn't get that white dude's music LOL. I took him to one of the Rising shows back in 2003 and he was just blown away. A good show is a good show.
And frankly I have taken several people to Bon Jovi live shows who have come away as converts - people who thought they were horrible to begin with. Maybe it's the live music that gets 'em.
